Talk about dangling that carrot

Sunday, my wife informed me she was going Christmas Shopping for about 4-5 hours and that I could stay home and have un-interupted guitar playing while she was gone. I hit the Mother Load. :D Until..........

My computer's mother board went out on me. Thats like having Ann Hathaway right in front of you and can't do a thing--even though you have permission.

uugghhh, was I peeved--to say the least. So I spent half of the time on the phone with a friend that is a computer tech and informed me that is was prob the mother board to call dell. :x Then I spent about another hour talking to them to confirm what I already knew.

I know this is really not a digitech thread, but you guys are family, right :)

I guess the moral of the story is, back your stuff up often, luckily I did 2 days prior, so didn't loose much.

Anyway, hopefully be back up and running in a week.

  • Dead motherboard should not result in data loss. But yes, backups are important.
  • To he|| with the puter. It'd drive me nucking futs to have been given git'r time, and had to spend it on the phone with tech support.
And if I had Anne H in my hot tub and wasn't allowed in, I'm pretty sure I'd kill myself. Or perhaps whoever was responsible for that.
  • I second that opinion. If you dicide to purchase another computer instead of the motherboard replacement be sure to slave your other hard drive and see if the old ram is compatable with your new computer and add it if you can. a few upgrades you can add for free. More hd drive space and memory. also you get the added benefit of not losing any data you might have on the old drive.

I have a Dell XPS laptop and one day it stopped taking a charged. Found out that the only way to repair it was to replace the entire mother board. Nice. But they fixed it the next by with an in home repair tech. Very nice service... Sort of strange that they couldn't repair it any other way though...
  • I hooked my GNX4, one time to a computer in 5 years, just to make sure it would do it...Too much hassle..
  • So, what is a computer? Oh yea I know what they are. The BSC uses them to give Oklahoma the Big 12. Sorry just had to.

One day I thought about hooking the GNX-3 up to a computer but a sticker on the back of the computer said use only for giving away conference titles. Oops I did it again.

    peace

I hope State Just domminates USC i know peeps don't give them much of a chance? BUT Remember what Oregan State did to them! They are deffinetly beatable 8) :D

Anyhow sorry for the rant: I had a scare not so long ago with my puter as well! Turned out just the supply Eazy fix for a Electronics Tech like myself. Had everything back to normal in like 3 days I think? Till I got the new Power Supply etc.. Anyhow hope you get all back to normal soon!! That is good to hear. I don't know alot about that part of computers.

Shredd, I did get some time in in between calls, but I've wanting to work on dozen or so songs I have. Yes, frustrating not to touch Ann..er uh I mean my guitar

Dannyboy, Luckily I've only had my puter 6 months and I am sending it today to Dell to fix under warranty :D

Tal, how do you record--the old fashioned way??

Mike B, I'm with you on the Big12. I used to work for Dr. Pepper when I lived in Texas and we were a huge Big12 supporter. I wish that they would have a bracket playoff with top 16 or 24, to me that would make more since in the whole college bowl crap. If I re-call, didn't Texas beat OK 45-35. So, if OK loses, that means that Missouri will be Big12 Champs :?

Thanks for feeling my pain everybody, gotta go, boss is here.

    .

The on board recorder on the GNX4. Cut tracks for backing, bass, lead etc.. After I get all tracks sounding pretty good, just stick the .WAV's in Sonar, to basically create .mp3's...

I hate all that computer interface, and mixing junk..
    Rather spend my time playing..LOL..

    +1. BIG time.

could you please specify, the specifics...specifically  just pretend i don't have that type of recorder/interface.. And that i don't know a think 'bout that fancy software. thanx in advace for your kind hearted patience and understanding.

it may be oldskool to some, that's what has finaly made it affordable to the rest.[/img]

Your \"good ole days\" are just on the horizon , thanx in large part to my local Craig'z lizt... and my recent financial ability to help my fellow musicians. how oldskool is my new rp100, eh 8) ?
doesn't matter in the least... \"I\"M STOKED! \" they modeled Glenn's setup.

    i'm like a giddy , schoolgirl...and i like it.
  • Hey P Jammer Yeah after you have tracks which are wav files recorded be it on the GNX4 Onbaord recorder, or whatever is used to record. Get those wav's on the computer now launch Sonar or whatever your recording/mixing/mastering software is you have loaded on the computer. The command in Sonar is Import Audio So import the wav files into audio tracks 1 by 1 into a new project in Sonar. Once there all in you can mix add effects whatever you want? Render MP3's. anyhow hope that helps some? Welcome to the forum! 8)
