I just started in to the recording aspect of music. I am using Nuendo 3 and ART fire tube 8 channel interface. I recorded a midi a track when I want do an audio vacal track I hear vocal sounds but the midi track stops playing when I choose to record and not able to record at the same time as the midi track is playing.

The MIDI track should probably be assigned to a soft synth, or a MIDI output connected to keyboard/synth outboard. Is this the case? Check the channel of the MIDI track, ensure that it's going to the correct instrument.

I am looking to get a digital recording system setup but I'm not sure which is the best way to go.

I am thinking about a Presonus Studio Tube connected to my notebook or a Korg D3200 workstation.

Does anybody have any experience with either one of these or recommend one setup over the other?

I'm still not sure which is better for recording, a computer based setup or one of the recording workstations.

I have a 1.66Ghz HP Pavilion dv8000 (Centrino Duo ) with 1 GB RAM and SONAR 7 Producer Edition. Is this computer going to have enough horsepower to record and play 8 tracks simultaneously?

Cygnus, just came upon this thread and am wondering if what you got for recording. I am looking at the Korg D3200 based on some high recommendations from others on the forum. I do have a PreSounus FP-10 that will record up to 8 tracks simultaneously on a computer. That is nice. But now I am thinking I might have been better off spending more money and getting a self contained hardware solution like the Korg D3200 for recording our gigs live, especially since I don't have a laptop computer ready to take on the road to record our gigs.

gtaus I ended up buying a PreSonus FireStudio Tube. I decided not to get an all in one recorder and decided to go with a notebook DAW. I talked to somebody that had a KORG D3200 and he said that it was not that flexible or easily upgradable and I pretty much read the same thing in online forums.

I am very happy with the sound of the FireStudio Tube, however I have experienced problems with their Firewire driver and so have other users. Hopefully they will get that situation corrected soon.

I bought the PreSonus FP-10 a few months back thinking I would use it to record our gigs live. Unfortunately, my old laptop is not compatible with Firewire so I still have work to do before I record on the road. The FP-10 works great on my desktop computer in my home studio, but that is not why I bought it. I really want a solution for recording at our gigs. I guess I'll have to find some Firewire interface/adapter for my laptop or I'll have to get a newer laptop with Firewire built in. I was hoping to not have to buy yet another computer, but it looks like that might be easiest way to get everything up and running.

I have heard many positive reviews about the D3200, but there are also some unhappy reviews on the machine too. A guy I know told me to go the laptop/software/interface route instead of getting a recording box like the D3200. Like you, he mentioned that his recorder (not a D3200) was too limited for his needs. He likes the flexibility offered by the computer solutions. I guess I'll be looking for an adapter (which I can afford) and see if I can get something set up for recording on the road with the FP-10.
