Heavy Handed Moderation
This is not about disrespecting a moderator, but rather voicing an opinion as a long standing member.
I felt I'd just leave gracefully a week ago, and skip the drama. I PM'd Shredd a goodbye note, and felt my time was finished here because of the heavy handed nature of Ilia. (he seems to be getting worse) I just got a PM, which brought me back, and after reading it, I've decided to speak out. Why?...well if this message board community is going to continue with an uptight moderator, then I maybe owe it to this community to say my piece as well. FWIW....2 cents? :P
I am not so sure this it's about limiting to strictly GNX related business.
To a point ...yes, this is a privately owned message board, with a specific commercial purpose and intention.
But with that said...they also have an obligation to the message board community. If they do not wish to have ideas, open discussion, transfer of knowledge, and all the things that come within discussion, debate and common interest...then they should simply post a manual of sorts, however they want it expanded. Offer a tech support, and forget the message board all together.
If they do wish to develop a community...and want to keep long standing members around, then they have to allow members some license, and camaraderie. Members offer diverse FREE tech support and a much wider working knowledge base and experience.
Otherwise...how do you keep people interested? Members who show up for a couple answers and leave...may as well call tech support.
More minds and more opinions always makes for better results. One man can not be the know all, tell all. We all have something to offer this message board.
My personal questions were answered mainly by the GNX4 manual. I originally came here for a few answers like most nOObies, but found the community to be fun and interesting. At the time I was doing full time Fire/Rescue and I looked to guitar and this message board for stress debriefing. I also enjoyed expression of humor. I looked to that as my talent to offer, with occasional gear advice.
Basically, I like my tube amp with a few pedals more than my GNX4. I'm old school, and I also do not wish to learn all the techno stuff some of you guys have so much talent in. But does that make what I have to offer any less valuable? Even if my jokes keep things real...it's my privilege. I have close relationships with some great talent, and I also help set up the stage for people like Joan Jett for instance, and Bad Finger just a couple weeks ago. I have some luthier experience and been around music and guitars and talent since 1965. I am trying to simply point out, I offer what I can, even if I am not as driven as some of you younger guys.
But I digress.
You are right Ilia. If we don't like your method of moderating...we can just leave. I for one did that, and I'm only coming back to speak my piece, as I feel you my friend need to lighten up, before you drive away better members than just me.
You locking a thread because you face some criticism is proof you need to relax. I didn't see any disrespect from anyone.
Anyway...wow...this place in no fun for me anymore, and I am denied helping it be fun for others, so I guess my time is up.
I suppose we all leave sooner or later. Ta Ta...bip bip...cherry-o.

Members are allowed to discuss products by any manufacturer, not only Harman Music Group subsidiaries.
Members are not restricted from giving negative feedback on any Digitech-related products.
Members are allowed to advertise their online auctions here, for any product, not just Digitech-related. And while we're at it - go sell your RP500, you can put a link here. Sell it brand new for $200 off - has anyone ever said a word about it?
Members are not, contrary to what you're saying, disallowed from criticizing the board or its moderators.
Members are allowed to discuss anything that's within profanity guidelines. So we had the religious thread (which I was asked to delete), we had the movie quotes, we had five word games, regular postings for female celebrities' phone numbers, etc. Nobody ever said a word - you know the rules, and you're allowed to play by them.
I deleted one picture you posted. I found it annoying. It was a joke. You lighten up, friend. Post it back up if you love it so, it'll stay there I promise.
And we try to keep things organized here. Hence, we have a dedicated board for videos and pictures. We got the Vista thread down to one. Think about that: isn't that information a lot easier to find now? It's right there at the top. It's helpful to the users.
Somebody was curious where people on the board are from. Some decided to share. Others decided to pollute it. I simply removed the non-essential replies and kept the ones on the subject. That's a basic premise of netiquette. If you are so uncouth so as to think that you are allowed to post anything anywhere, well... learn some manners. I was trying to keep one thread clean, and I intend on doing so in the future if I feel the need.
That's all. Have a nice life.
Let me be more succinct, so that you do not misunderstand me, or mislead others as well.
I have had many, many photos, animations, sentences, words, and even entire posts deleted by you ever since you became a moderator. I have tried to keep within the guidelines, and not post anything that would not be viewed on network television programs or commercials. I’m not talking about cable…so don’t confuse this analogy. I’ve attempted to be PG-13 best I could, because I do realize we have minors who visit this community. Of course we have had some moments of crossing the line, and those times, fun as they were for adults who primarily make up this community, are adult enough to understand the editing.
You have been deleting more and more of my stuff, which is utterly ridicules…to consider inappropriate material. You in my opinion are simply on some power trip, and no one has been willing to say much, until now.
I’ve put up with your crap ever since you became a mod. I’ve allowed it to slide over and over…because I haven’t considered you worth the time. You have to save face here…not me. Show some class, and do it on your own.
What? I never even posted in that thread. How dare you claim I was uncouth and without manners!
By the way…I see you deleted Shredds entire thread you locked. Smooth move … iliace. What was the purpose of that? You locked it. Was there anything you are trying to white wash? Hahaha…I honestly feel sorry for you, as condescending, control freak and uptight as you are.
Like I said, you have to consider the members who make this message board what it is.
You do not make this message board iliace, you are only a part of it…and get off this power trip you are on. This message board for the most part, moderates itself!
But…Hey…thanks for one last laugh!
JV
Wow is right! ... What did I miss?
I don't know what happened.. But my 2 cents is ... Since I started hangin around here last Feb. I thought this place was pretty liberal.... but yet everyone seemed pretty cool and someone was always johnny on the spot with an answer if you had a real/serious question.
Personally I haven't seen no heavy handedness, compared to other places. jmho
That js place is big ie alot of members. instead of a couple smart elleck answers you get a dozen! You have to have X amount of post before you can have an avatar and with more post you get more ' priviges ' They have a section there that you can say what you want about anyone/anything .. but you have to have a 1000 post to have that
' privige ' so you can't even comment back without a 1000 post!
Jim I was over there at js while this one was down. Couldn't get nothing to work right ie read unread lights etc it was just a pain in the butt... mods wouldn't/couldn't give me a decent answer how to get it working right so I never been back .... to much of a hassle to be convient..
But ... anyways... GL manitou
that's musician talk
Shredd’s locked thread was removed, after I posted this thread. I remember a comment, not word for word, but it had something to do with iliace saying if we don’t like his moderating techniques, we can go somewhere else. (paraphrased)
I had already decided to leave, and told Shredd why I was leaving, and thanked him for the great banter and good times he’s given, making my stay here fun and interesting.
The camaraderie is mainly what kept me around. I didn’t want the drama over leaving, so I will try to shut up and just go this time. (I know I’ll lurk a little…I’m weak like that.) :P
Right now, I am busy bow hunting Whitetails, and listening to Ted Nugent music.
I’m lusting after Sarah Palin, and do believe I’d vote this year based on boobage.
I agree that our primary interest here is for the music, gear, and sharing ideas and inspiration. But there is more to it, and that varies with each member. I bet each long standing member is like me, in the fact we got most of our answers to the Digitech products from reading the manual.
I have the least musical discipline of anyone here. I simply play my guitar for fun, and have no desire to be in a band, or become a song writer, or seek any attention to my abilities. My connection here is the musicians themselves, and the industry. (I am also a recovering G.A.S addict) I work part-time on weekends as a stage hand, setting up lighting, sound, drum kits, even tuning a guitar now and then…for a local Casino. I get to hang out and help while the sets are played, and talk with musicians, much like what I do here. I see some big name talent occasionally, and its fun and exciting to me.
I agree this site is liberal, and I have stuck around as long as I have, for the good things here. For the most part, this site is self moderating and has a bad word filter, and we only need a moderator for deleting spam. But…and this is my own opinion, the fun has been getting sucked out of here by iliace. I view him as uptight, controlling, and way too serious minded, and always have from the moment I met him. I was chagrinned when he was made a moderator. We have plenty of techs with outrageous talent and knowledge, but these guys tend to have no sense of humor. That’s fine, but so are the skirt chasing beer drinking, wanna be rock stars who play guitar for the chix and fame.
I’ve always been a side-liner. I like staying in the shadows. I’ve lived right next door to Steven Stills, a block away from Carlos Santana, did some work for Van Morrison, (I was a state licensed Builder) partied with both Ted Nugent and Alice Cooper, hated Sammy Hagar because we were dating the same chick, was friends with Doug Irwin ( Jerry Garcia’s luthier…and been a luthier buff myself) live across the street from Ron Banks and Diana Ross, and use to go down to the old Motown Studios, back in the day, yada yada yada. I’ve been around this scene all my life. I’m long in the tooth, but I hope to still convince Adriana Lima we are soul mates, and I’d love to party with Satch. I’ve been mutilating his songs for three years now, and I think I’ve found where he’s been screwing up.
Sorry...I was just wrapping my lunch in some tin foil. :?
Gotta go>>>>>>>>>>> 8)
He's right, there are other sites to visit, and this one is now a total drag.
Sad to read you're leaving, you have your reasons to do it and I'm not here to discuss them.
But let me tell you guys, this is a great group of friends which are always willing to lend a hand, and when there are too many friends, disagreements come to show.
Is not that part of our freedom of speech?
Of course, in all discussion groups there has to be a moderator to keep things going smooth and organized, without a moderator this could be total anarchy, and with that in mind, Ilia has the right and authority to call us to behave and delete the posts he could consider offensive.
So I hope you reconsider your leaving and soon begin to read you again.
\"...peace is the respect to other's rights\"
Manitou - my apologies mate! I didn't mean to acredit that statement to you! That was my fault and it was wrong. Didn't do it on purpose.
GL this season ..... I just changed arrows and broad heads, busy doing some last minute tuning and adjustments <
Ya stupid thing to do right at the begining of the season .. LoL cheap plug for Nugents new book, Ted,white and Blue
OK.....guilty as charged
i have left boards for the OPPOSITE reason of \"chaos\" about 5 times.I have left one board for the reason that it was soooooo \"dry\" that i wondered if humans were actually posting  A forum with a varied degree of intelligence and humor is getting harder to find
your banter and advice will be sorely missed!
J
What did I tell ya Ilia a while back? MWAHAHAHA!
All I gotta say is, fix your damn avatar.
This does bring back memories though...
http://guitarlogic.org/index.php?topic=5028.0
There's still the newsgroups..NTTP...
However most of the major providers are discontuing their NTTP servers, to save bandwitth..
It's still the wild west on most of those groups though..
Anything goes...From name calling to spam...
I still frequent this one which google has made available..TEXT only..
http://groups.google.com/group/rec.music.makers.guitar.jazz/topics?hl=en&pli=1
many, many others, relating to all kinds of stuff, but most will be only TEXT by the end of the year...
Haaay, no profanity allowed.....were's the mod when you need him?
JV
I feel like I'm in one of those bands where the Bass player can't seem to get along with the Drummer. Can't we all just get along?(sorry for the cliche)
This is a forum of which everyone seems to get to know everybody like family. This is just a family squabble...right??
This thread(or what ever you call it) is called \"General Discussion and Chatter\" which, in my opinion, is....ummm General Discussion(asking a gnx related question) and Chatter(asking what we can do to get Shredd a \"Rush Loving Hottie\").
I've only been here for a few months and maybe I'm wrong about the chatter part--but to me, thats what brings in the commroderie(family if you will). Like being in a band, its not all business--theres some messing around--otherwise, you'd just go gnuts.
Thats what intised me to sign up for this forum--when I knew darn well I'd never have the time to read it. But, it was fun to see everyone talking back and forth just like old friends and family.
Like I said, I haven't been here long, but hopefully you guys can bury the hatchet. I would hate to see this forum lose a member.
Anyway, like most of the time, I had to put in my 2 cents.
Your absolutely right judaskiss! general chatter is just that, general banter of harmless non offending topics!
Everyone knows the 2 taboo topics; religion and politics... They will always lead to a disagreement no matter how civil it starts out. Sooner or later someone is going to take it personal! And you really can't blame them it is what they believe, what they are, be it religion or politics, everyone stands for/believes in something. Then when one side gets insulted to the extent they have to make a stand and strike back, then the other side usually says \" what I didn't do/say anything wrong etc. then it can get real ugly when one side has a better command of the english language and starts drawing on their arsonal from websters and really starts laying on the passive aggressiveness. The other side gets even more frustrated, then you start getting into the ugly language and then ...... I don't find that humorus or funny in the least, and I don't think alot do! iliaces link to the thread from GL is a good example..
Go to the gear page they have it right there in their rules ' absolutely no talk on politics or religion ' Take AlbertA didn't like what was happening here in the early days of this forum when it was the wild, wild west, and went off and started his own forum. Everybody in the world has that right, but they won't do it. Rather go to someone elses forum and reek havoc! Then cry when the Texas Rangers show up to hand out some law an order....
The only time anyone has a right (imo ) to say what they want and how they want to say it ( on the www ) is to have their own forum or blog. Otherwise they will always be under the law of someone else's forum. And I think that's a shame when people think they have a right to have it their way anytime they want... It ain't burgerking!!
Wow .. goodthing there is a sale going on, or my bank account would be hurting... like the saying says 'every season has its time.. if folk feel they have to move on then they have to. Its a real shame when it's cuz of a sour note ... either this place will get some replacements or die quietly in peace... who knows.... It's a real shame though.. like you said it was a nice little family ......
to the limit as much as he can, but we do need to be mindfull that not everyone who reads this will be as out there as most of us seem to be. There are rules and there needs to be limits and I'm sure Iliace has to answer to someone higher up. And every once in a while we might step over that limit and get a spanking. SO what. I would certainly hope everyone has more goin on in their lives besides an online forum. I'm just not willing to get that emotionally attached to it. I come here to share info and have some fun, Otherwise I can read the newspaper and get a rise in my blood pressure. While there are other forums out there, I find abit more depth to the conversations here.
he did a last post wins game (which I won). Man he sent me a zepplin BOX set for winning. HOW COOL IS THAT !!!
I am still enjoying it. I enjoyed his humor too.
Sorry about the ressurection of this but it's been a while for me
rock on dudes
I try to keep things light-hearted with my posts but I'm gonna agree with judaskiss and also state what the hell is going on here on this forum?? I'm not a long time member compared to some others here but for most part I've enjoyed it. I'm also not a big time poster here either but I do try and read the forum a lot when I get a chance - always busy though like many people. I like to help people out with their gear issues as I've been in the game for many years and I've got some good advice back in the past and I'm grateful for it.
But if I can make one comment about the forum these days please - my 2 cents worth so to speak. I just don't think there is enough tech advice on this forum, or if there is, its only from a couple of people. Yet there seems to be plenty of stuff written on all sorts of other issues personal or not, whatever.
For example, I recently stuck up a post on using my GNX3k with my new Rivera head and I was pretty disappointed with the response I got. Some time ago there would have been plenty of responses with advice, discussion, people asking about the amp and some funny stuff with it. Thats the good stuff I joined the forum for. For those that did respond I really appreciate it. But surely for the number of people on this forum I was expecting a little more help, at least discussion. And to my way of thinking, giving support is what gets people hooked on these forums and adding to this little Digitech 'family' so many of you are talking about. Lets face it, I don't know of any music shops that can give you the type of advice on DT products like this forum can - they're just payed to sell the units. So I think tech advice/discussion is what needs to be the FOCUS of this forum - not all the other garbage that is getting people (and moderators) off-side with each other. Can you imagine what other people who are looking at this forum for the first time are thinking when they read the nonsense thats going on here?? Shame!
Sure, get out there and post some funny stuff and I'll be right up there laughing with you but just don't forget what this forum is all about - helping people and welcoming new members.
I'm gonna get this started with a thread on country pickers and what settings people have got their gear set at. Country isn't something hugely discussed perhaps but there are some awsome pickers out there who can turn around and spin out some unbelieveable jazz - I'm really envious of them!

Though I know I am usually known for my heavy handed moderation,
I thought I would take a break from that and start reviewing in very non technical terms my new purchases in the little used accessories section here.
I find simple reviews of equipment that are really working out for the user helpful in my purchasing choices and with Christmas around the corner it would be great to get some of youguys to review some of the new things in your arsinal that really shine. Just a thought Peaceout D.
