RIP Jerry Reed

A n excellent guitarist passed away Monday night.
Jerry reed (real name Hubbard) has always been a big influence on my playing. Even when I was all metaled out in my teens I still loved jerry's guitar playing.
I am glad that he left a great legacy of music.
Though about half his music was kinda watered down and Nashville produced out he also left some amazing guitar playing. His pickin on Alabama Jubilee,The Claw and others and his stompin hits like Amos Moses,When You're Hot You're Hot and Koko Joe are classic.
He even wrote one of Elvis' hits \"Guitar Man\".
I have a list of three concerts I want to see again before time takes it toll, Willie nelson, Motorhead (Lemmy) and Jerry reed. I will not get to see that last Reed show but I will be listening to his music for the rest of my days.

Jerry Reed was a tremendous guitar player. I think Chet bestowed one of his \"Certified Guitar Player\" titles on Jerry.

I too am glad there are recordings and videos of his playing.

    RIP

    peace
  • Don't forget he won Grammy's and CMA awards and all that, and some great country git'rists have come out and said they have him to thank for his revolutionary style.
  • has always put him as a big influence. Lee is another unbelievable git picker.
Too many \"guitar heros\" are always from the Rock genre and great players from other forms of music are overlooked.
I love me some R\"n\"R, but to overlook people like Jerry reed, Andres Segovia or Charlie Christian (among many others ) is unfortunate.
Jerry Reed is as good as any rocker and better than most.
I haven't lost a living influence on my playing since Randy Rhoades died.
It breaks me up even more than I thought.

I've always favored git'rists who had their own style, or created it, or just broke from the pack. You kin have yer Slash's et al...those are guys who just sucked the right johnsons. I know guys in bar bands who can play them under a stage. There's guys HERE that can play better than slash; they just don't own a snake or the surly attitude.

Give me Steve Howe, give me Lifeson, give me Christopher Parkening or Jeffrey Edge.

Myself, I was very saddened when Brad Delp killed himself.

I will take your recomendation and ter Google them.

Christopher Parkening is a fairly renowned classical git'rist known for his beautiful interpretations of well-know compositions. He has many albums out.

Jeffrey Edge is/was based in Boulder, CO and is an amazingly gifted classical git'rist himself. He's pretty young, still. He not only plays the classics at a master level, but also composes beautifully. He also has a few CDs out, though they might be harder to find.
I'll burn you copies of mine if you have your wife set me up with her hott single friend. 8)
  • Besides being a killer player had a great sense of humor. Always laughing that laugh that make you laugh too.
