Problem!!!!!!
Hey guys!
First of all I want to excuse for my lack of english knowledge!!!
So, here's a descripition problem:
I use an Ibanez 321 RG, a Hughes&Kettner VORTEX 2x12 and a Digitech \"The Weapon\" pedal.
For 3 months or so my equipment started to \"blackout\" sometimes and I do not know why. I bought this pedal 9 months ago. I just have some clues like: my guitar was very cheap, it's 6 years old, i maintained the guitar's output several times, i once stepped onto the power adaptor of my pedal and bent the contacts of it.
BUT, when I use my guitar without this pedal (for example in dist. channel of my amp) I never realized any blackouts. It seems that they're only in presence when I use the pedal on high dist. Unfortunatly I have no facts for that. Last time in our rehearsel studio everything went clean without any disturbing things.
I hope someone answers this thread and I'll get some good ideas what to do!!!

First thing you have to do is isolate the problem.
You stated that you feel it's the pedal, so stop using it for a while to completely verify that's your problem. Take the pedal out of the signal path, and play without it for a few days. If the problem disappears, you know it's a problem with the pedal. Do the same with the other items: use a different guitar, and even an amp. this is all done to find out the real problem. Continually playing with all 3 items in the signal path does you no good finding the real problem.
If it's a pedal, try running it on an AC power supply instead of a battery. Even with a brand new battery, the power demands of a pedal can be enough to make it \"black out\".
Thanks for the anwers!
I've never used a battery ---> only running on power adapter!!!
The problem is, these blackouts aren't omnipresent and it's hard to figure out or isolate this prob because I only have on e-guitar and one amp. And we aren't rehearsing every day. Last time I had no blackouts. I even borrowed a power adapter from a friend and had also nothing like a blackout.
And it's not like we're having time in our room to figure out what's the cause because time is running out slowly and there're some gigs coming towards us an we're going to record very soon.
Plus i just have the money o buy a new guitar OR an amp. So that makes me really nervous!
Instead of using the adapter I'll try the batteries. And like you said \"without the pedal\" for a while. Frankly I hope the problem causes my RG because it was cheap, it's 6 years old and needs to be replaced, hehe.
I'd like to read some more suggestions because maybe there is one affordable genius-solution out there!

Hmmm, headphones, good idea!
Well then...start to isolate!
And you're probably right about my RG. Maybe I'm going to pimp it up a little.

good idea just finnished puttin emgs in mine. if you go with em go with the 81 its all around my favorite. or the h4 to stay passive. anyway good luck on finding the problem
Thanks for your confidence!
How about DiMarzio's, starting with their tasty PAF Pro's, and going down their list of about 40 types, all with their own unique sound?
How about S/D's?
How about customs? (there's a million of 'em out there, use the web)
You oughtta do some listening before you lay out the bux...
Hehehe, I was kidding.
And I honestly just know the EMG 60 & 81 and the Seymour Duncan \"Blackouts Metal\" Humbucker tested for fun in my once favorite musicstore which is down now...
And it's a little problem for me that there're so many different types of pickups because a have a huge problem in making decisions. It took me several months before I was sure which acoustic guitar it's gonna be. So if I really pimp my RG I'll check the EMGs 'cause I tried them and really liked the sound.
For me at this time a unique sound isn't very important. First I have to get a unique player and then think about sounding different.
All I want now is my equip to work (if I get rid of that prob) and help forming our band's style.

Nope, it's not the cord(s) and not the amp.
Overall, you can be fairly safe going for ones you like the sound of in a setup that's reasonably close to what you have.
But don't expect those EMG's - or anything else - to sound good in your RG if you listen to them in a LesPaul roaring through a Marshall stack (if you don't have one)...
The last days I was playing just with a battery instead of the power adapter AND no blackouts at all! So there must be a loose contact in the AC input (or however it is called in english) on the pedal. I might be able to fix that!
So my guitar's fine too, just looking forward to pimp it a little. Have to replace the bridge and the pickups. Fretboard is still ok, like on the first days but the corpus has got several damgages on the finish an the wood (was rocking too hard, hehe).
So here's another problem (for the near future):
Like shredd said there's a huge amount of pickups, and just test them in a musicstore may not be enough to be confident with them.
So what kind of pickups would you suggest for my RG and a H&K Vortex 2x12 100W to sound good. I prefer styles like thrashmetal, doom, melodic death (mixed with celtic folk or/and acoustic music). And I'm not a lead guitar player!
I also was thinking of buying a Randall RX-120RHS (stack with 200W) for gigs.
Just gimme some of your thoughts!!!
