Ouch! G/A/S!!!
Yuh. Havin' a little G/A/S pain lately. Everything is a good deal and I'm having some sort of existential crisis that makes me wanna play everything.
Recent acquisitions: one of those cute little electronic drum sets, which is hardly a real drumset and hardly gig-worthy, but is so much fun it's worth twice what it cost me. And learning to play drums gives me an excuse to drool down my chin and not shave.
Also recently arrived is a guitar that I owned in my younger - and smarter - years, and have always loved and wanted another of. But so many of them are so beat up or spanked out or overpriced that I never picked one up. 'Til recently...a '79 Ibanez MC200 Musician, natural blnd finish, in mint shape and at a tasty price. Neck through, hard tail, 24 frets, locking tuners, long travel bridge. Probably the best git'r series Ibanez ever made. It's a moist-maker.
Nothin' like a natural bl0nde, eh???
And, as always, a slew of other little goodies...a tasty new capo, a bunch of great instrument cables, straps, abalone bridge pins for my trusty ol' Dean ac/el...
In sadder news, some of the buttons on my beloved ol' Roland Juno-60 are getting pretty unresponsive. Might haveta open the thing up. Jeez, things start going bad pretty fast when you turn 30...

Those digital drum sets are a ton of fun although I haven't started to dribble when playing them yet which makes me wonder what kind of 'beat' you're getting yourself into?!
A couple of friends who are superb drummers tried these digi kits out and honestly they sounded like they had only been playing a week!
Thats sounds like a good find with your Ibanez - congrats!
BBoo.
....is it true blinds have more fun?....and gentlemen prefer blinds?
But as far as I know, I'd be the only gentleman I can think of who'd prefer blinds. Less chance of dumpage.
How's that for grammar??
But I gotta say, this set is SOOO much fun. And they \"sound\" like \"real\" drums to me.
Now if only I could learn to count to four. Over, and over, and over...
When I was a kid playing in my dads band we had a gig at a old peoples home (not exactly cool! ) and when playing a solo in front of these oldies I had the mouth wide open and I drooled all down the front of my axe... after the gig one of these oldies came up and told me I belonged in the home with them!
Maybe I should stick to pentatonics.....
You've seen my setup in the (home studio) pic forum, with the keyboards, bass guitars, electric guitars, etc.
2 years ago, before I bought the house I'm in, now, I bought a PDP drum set at Guitar Center, with the only intention of having them as Acoustic appearance/Electronic sound!
You need to see this guy's kit, that I found while researching the conversion:
www.stealthdrums.com
I'll be adding the piezo triggers, mesh heads, and Roland module to my PDPs, then I'll have the complete band equipment, plus light show, temporarily in the basement, until I get the 3rd garage reorganized to build the stage! (Remember, I just moved in last year, so I haven't even finished unpacking, let alone, trying to setup all my music equipment, but I'm doing the best I can!)
If all else fails with your drumkit, shredd, you can always buy Rock Band for PS2! You don't have to remember timing, you just have to memorize COLORS, to keep a beat!
This guy has about ten kits. Look at THIS one! http://www.weblogimages.com/dajmando/2004-06-05/100_0052.JPG
My little kit is the OSP DD502. It's hardly a \"real\" drumset, but it sounds great. I imagine a \"real\" drummer would think it a toy, but I saw a vid of a guy playing on it and he sounded pretty good and looked to have no trouble jamming on it. And if I actually were a drummer, I'd rather haul this rig to a show and set it up, than real drums...it'd fit in a duffel bag and weighs about 50 lbs. Small, and quick to set up/tear down.
Here's a guy on ebay selling them, and it has a video embedded:

I found another website where the guy used a Yamaha DD-55 as a Module, and wired the triggers directly to each pad. He made his own drums out of oak rings and screendoor mesh, but said they work fine!
I love Do It Yourself projects, when done tastefully!
I got a Jet Black PDP EZ drum set (Bass, Snare, 2 Toms, Floor Tom/hardware: snare stand, hi hat stand, single cymbal stand, bass pedal, sticks, but No Cymbals)! Guitar Center had 2 sets left, clearanced for $100 each! I know, I should've bought BOTH sets, but I chose the Unopened set, instead!
If I can connect a MIDI interface between the triggers and my Yamaha Keyboard, I may be able to use the Digital Sound Processor drum kits already built in to it! If I can, that'll save cost of buying a $1,000 Roland TD20 module, anyway!
DEFinitely shoulda bought both. Even cheapo drums are worth more than that!
I was having a hard time figuring out where to put ONE set, and I almost didn't buy EITHER set!
Oh, well, I can always add another Bass to it, and go from there.
Here's my plan:
PDP Drums- $100
Mesh screen, for heads (Lowes)- $15 (1 roll does 1 set)
Piezo triggers (Radio Shack)- 10 for $6
1/4\" jacks (Radio Shack)- 10 for $X.xx?
MIDI Interface- still researching
If I can build this for less than $1,000, I'll be happy.
If I can build it for less than $500, I'll be REALLY happy!
After watching the OSP video, that really is a cool kit, and somewhat compact! Love the flamejob bass pedal! 8)
I went to Ebay, and just bid on a Roland module, and ended up winning by $2.50, at the last minute! (26 other guys are not happy right now... )
Looks like I'll be able to keep it all under $500, afterall! 8)
As long as you're jumped by a Groupie, but not a Stalker, then I wish you Good Luck, buddy!
Basic rule is: if you really want an item, bid the max you're willing to pay for it. By the proxy system, the bid will keep going up til someone passes you, but if they don't, you get it for less than your max bid; whatever it takes to beat the last bidder.
Buuut...then you can't bum out 'cuz some guy beat you by $2.50, cuz even though you'd have gladly paid an extra coupla bux for the item, for all you know the guy who won bid $100 over you, but it only took $2.50 to beat you.
Mind-boggling, isn't it? Makes you wanna cruise garage sales in TX, doesn't it?+
So...I just bid whatever I really wanna pay, or else just go to MF.
Meanwhile, no one's jumping me...maybe I should count my blessings! (although...the last time I was jumped, it was by a babe so hott I called her for weeks afterward, hoping for a rematch...only to figure out that for her it was a winner-take-all cage match with no second round.
that little DD-55 i have is just fine 8) and i have learned that smaller drumsticks help in the transition from the \"big-kit\" to it.
peculiar fact......i have only drooled while playing guitar  never while playing drums :?
I can play drums at a beginner/intermediate level. The drummer from my band decided to buy an Alesis set of electronic drums with the Dm5 module.
I had played his kit before and have played many times his electronic kit.
IT IS SOOOOO MUCH BETTER TO PLAY!!! Because you can adjust the tension of the heads on the pads, you can get a huge amount of bounce and of course it doesnt impact on the sound! Personally, the feel of these drums is waaay better than \"real\" drums because of this.
Electronic drums:
- Do not make as much sound. Thus you can practise more and get better without annoying people.
- Sound great.
- Can be change between vastly different sounds without buying anything new.
- Can be recorded much much easily and successfully.
Obviously cheap electronic drums cannot be compared to the expensive Alesis/Roland/Yamaha.
Watch out! I'm a serial sniper!
My record was in the very last second.
I do it just for kicks too. For instance when an item has no other bids
Maybe take up a hobby. Like guitar playing? :P
Either that, or spend more time combing the beach for a hott Aussie babe who wants to live in the Rocky Mtns with a nice tall dark haired guy and be my playmate.
To win an auction with NO other bids is not very challenging, Hoot... kinda like typing on your computer with your monitor turned off!
The challenge is in the timing and actually getting your bid in in the last second.
OHhhh, so that makes you the ANTI-SNIPER SNIPER?!!!
If you can actually do that, then you're not raising the price for the Sniper, you're only raising the price for the other Bidders!
A true Sniper only needs ONE BID to end the auction, which won't allow you to Counterbid, as the auction ends in the Sniper's favor!
Don't ask me how I know, because if I show you on Ebay, I'll have to Snipe you there!
Shredd,
WHERE do you think we've been looking?
Every time I search for \"woman for shredd\", it comes up with 0 matches found...
Maybe in the \"adult\" listings??
