What Recording Software to Use

hey everybody, new member with a question. I am trying to use Acid Music Studio 7 with my GNX4 and can't seem to get the sound to come thru. I have GNX4 usb to computer. Is anybody familiar with software or know of one-fairly inexpensive-that works well with GNX4. I have tried to use Pro Tracks and always seem to have some issue, for instance when I use some effects there is an annoying screeching beep that comes thru. Any suggestions?? thanks

  • I could not be happier with Sonar 5 Producer! 8) I got my copy used off Ebay for like 150 shipped to me. You can probably even do better than that these days! Especialy since Sonar is up to like version 7 now? The Sonar 5 Producer I mentioned is alot better than PTP which is stripped down older yet version of Sonar. So anyhow if you liked the layout etc.. of PTP you may want to look into upgrading to newer more powerfull version of Sonar off Ebay? It worked for me! I'm glad I did!! Just wish I would have done that before I bought the VST Adaptor program from Cakewalk for 60 bucks!! That 60 could have went torwards the upgrade which I ended up doing anyhow! :x
  • all kinds of choices

Most value packed is Sonar Studio XL for any budget minded DAW with an extensive kit of plugins.

The noise issues could be several things. First you need to have at least 2 gb ram for any DAW application. USB is fine, but firewire options are less of an issue for recording. It depends upon your pc specs. If you have onboard soundcard for audio it most likely is not up to recording spec. Check out either an external interface or better PCI cards and you will notice a drastic improvement.

Adjust the latency slider in PTP and see if it can help resolve ticking issues. If asio is not working for you you can try asio4all drivers instead which seem to be better in many cases. www.asio4all.com
  • Thanks, it seems Sonar is the way to go. I have Audacity, but can't seem to get the professional sound I'm looking for. I like it because it is so simple to use--press record and go. I'm just an old-timer used to the old way.
  • Hi... I use Acid Pro 6.. Conventions are similar to Acid Music. As with any of the DAWS, you may need to fuss a bit with your bit rate/frequncy settings ( If using ASIO) .. In addition, I go direct out of the GNX analogs/phone plugs into my soundcard for monitoring. Therefore, I'm recording the USB but hearing the phones with mixer adjustment based on what is looped, etc...Whenever I pick a port for recording, I pick the \"Digitech USB 1-2\" and/or \"Digitech USB 3-4\" as the source. You shoudl have your GNX on and attached befreo you frire up acid or it won't see it. All this you may already know but anyway....

I have tried Sonar and in my mind had to fuss with it way too much kinda like Pro-tracks but I just may not have spent enough time with it. traction is also a great program... About the same price point....
  • I use Adobe Audition - generally fail-safe with the hardware once settings are done.
  • Cubase SL3 fan here with a batch of plugins from wavelab to add to it :D:D:D

recording files from the gnx4 just drag n drop right in so.....zero latency
