Anybody here use Band-in-a-Box (BIAB) software?

Years ago I used to use the old DOS version of Band-in-a-box. Over the years I had upgraded to various Windows versions of BIAB. I have not used the program in a number of years. I am wondering if anyone here is using a current version of the program and how well they like it. I always thought BIAB was a great tool, but that was years ago. The one thing I did not like was that there was never, IMHO, very much user support and trading of music files - compared to the number of free midi files on the internet. Is BIAB still a good program or have other programs taken its place? Are there active user groups sharing files for BIAB? Thanks. Take care.

  • The latest BIAB (2005 is the most recent one I've seen) have added many features, but it still sounds cheesy (maybe I need better soft synths). Good for practice though.
  • Its a great program from a songwriter's point of view. I love being able to jsut punch in a chordpro and then hear the song with thirty different feels . Being ablke to export the files as midi help, becuase then you can edit away to your heart's content and get rid of some of the cheesiness. Jammer Pro, in my opinion, produces less cheesy arrangements, but its Windows only. I do like some of the genreate a song from nothing aspects of Band in a Box. I've used it to get ideas for parts of melodies and for intros. You can make usable backing tracks with it.
