My latest recording. A song I wrote about 2 years ago.
Lost love and the seas...such a powerful combination.

The theme reminded me of that old song \"Brandy\".
I changed the link since I re-mixed some of the effects out. I put it on soundclick so the words are visable.
Anyway - I think this tune is really fine. Since you can mix it...if I were me, I'd try different keyboard sounds and usage...just MHO...
Thanks buddy!!
I have edited the original link, or use this

So my feeling is that the kb's are still not right. For one, they're too \"plucky\", too much like the acoustic guitar, rather than a counterpoint/enhancement. Also, with the theme of the song - the mysterious, vast, powerful sea - the kb's should reflect that, and let the git'r be the complement to the vocals. Let the kb's be more sweeping, ethereal, to reflect more of that mystery of the sea, plus to accentuate the poignant theme of tragically lost love.
That, plus you should be setting me up with your adoring groupies.
Funny thing is that I can'ttell you what would.
I am still trying to come up with a suitable sound for the intro of this one. I am also thinking of going to a piano and backing off the acoustic guitars in the first half of each verse. I am getting an ambient noise from the guitar that is driving me crazy.
The girl that I had playing flute is too hard to deal with for these recordings. She can't seem to play an entire song without 5 or 6 mistakes. She's pitchy & hits bad notes and doesnt even notice..lol.
I just don't have time or patience for that. I have to remember that the production is less important than the content. Most writers submit songs done on acoustic or piano alone. I am going a little overboard on these since I have the instruments here and can hack away at them.
I'll think of something. I need a day or 2 break anyway, my ears need to recoup.

What do you think?
But you definitely need a better k/b. 8)
...I've lost control!!! ha-ha!!!!
I don't think I can do much since they are all phasing in and out. The combined sound is close enough for now.
I am *really* thinking of getting a better keyboard. In fact I will start hunting the used shops on Monday. I would love to find a Kerzwell. I used to use them and they have the best acoustic, wind, string and piano sounds IMO.
As soon as the kids are asleep, I'm crackin' into their piggybanks and see what they can afford to get me....lol j/k my kids are women now.
The song has smoothed out a little, but since it' not for release, I can afford to let things slide a little. I have well over 50 original songs plus a ton of movie and TV themes to record over the next few months, then it's the start of the racing season, and I'm gone.
The only possible thing I can think of to make it better would be to add a (far underlying) keyboard track in the last chorus to give it a bigger feel. I mean something way down in the mix that makes it sound fuller and differentiate it from the other chorus parts. It gives the listener the impression that something is different, but it's not obvious.
But, believe me when I say that it really doesn't \"need\" anything. It's a great song.
I am purposely recording these songs with a lot of open space and not using much of my own personal version. I want the prospective artist to be able to hear or envision their own parts, solos and fills. Therefore, I've kept the bass and guitars very laid back and non-intrusive. I'm selling my words and basic melodies.
It's an exercise in frustration to be honest...I want to fill these songs and make them sickly sweet but then I would be presenting \"cover\" tunes to artists and not a bare-bone song ripe for their interpretation.
Thanks for the idea. It's a good one (for the artist that eventually does this song)
