acoustic into GNX

Hey there, has anyone had any success playing acoustic guitar through their GNX? I'm mostly interested in GNX 3000 because that's what I have, but any input would be helpful. I'm thinking there are some fairly standard things to do with amp models, gain, eq, maybe warp and cab tuning, but so far I haven't hit on it. I'm mostly interested in playing live thru the GNX into the house PA at my church.

Yes I recently did a few rough ideas using my 3k and my acoustic.
My upstairs bedroom is a nice large room with a hardwood floor and acoustics sound great in it. So as not to drag my whole tower upstairs I used my laptop with the 3k and a AKG414 into the mic input. This was
using my Gurian SJM. I also have a Washburn acoustic that has a pickup
that works well with the 3k. haven't used any amp modeling yet with the mic, but the delay and reverbs work good. Nice porta studio for acoustic.
If you have a pickup it should work just as well as anything for going
direct to a P.A.

OK, here's my story:
I have a nice Dean Exotica elec/acous that has nice Fishman electronics built in. I play it directly into my GNX4. I have some presets set up specifically for it.
The basic layout is a nice warm tube amp model, with gains set low-ish (about 1/3 up) so as not to introduce any distortion. I use 1x12 or 2x12 blond cabinet models. Depending on what your acoustic sounds like to start with, don't spike up the high end of your eq too much; makes the git'r sound thin. Reverb - just a touch - and set up your mod'n footswitch for chorus, so you can turn that on or off. Of course, you could assign something you want to change while playing to the expr'n pedal; mine is volume, but of course you could assign chorus volume or intensity, a bit of echo, whatever you want.
So - my take is that acoustics play very well through a GNX. Just experiment and you should be able to get the sound you want.

thanks for the replies. I am definitely battling the thinness and at the same time controlling the boominess. Maybe I should do my final tweaking in the actual church rather than trying to get it right at home.

Be sure to check your speaker compensation button/s, there's one on each set of outputs. And you can use the EQ very effectively, since you can select the frequency as well as the boost/cut. And make sure your patches aren't using single coil pickup emulation, that'll make for a thinner sound. Sounds to me like some EQ'ing oughtta do it. Get a good sound going at home, and you'll probably find that to use it at church won't require quite so much tweaking...

i run my acoustic thru my gnx4 quite often with no probs. it's a 98 martin 000-15ce, so the piezo pickup is very much old tech. the gnx makes it sound a LOT better.

when i play live with it, i run it thru a tube screamer, with the drive just barely cracked open. helps to do away with that piezo sleazo sound.

My acoustic is a Gibson CL-20 Standard Plus...electronics are old school too.

Do you run it through the GNX tube screamer stomp or through an actual Tube Screamer?

Interesting that a tube screamer would help! More interesting that you even tried it!

That's the great thing about rules, they were made to be broken. I've
used my washburn through my tube screamer since before I had my 3k.
It gets some real narley tones with a slide. But I also won't hesitate to use any other effect on it if it serves the purpose. That one bizzare sound
can sometimes inspire the greatest hook. Also if any of you guys do play slide, I recommend the Jetslide if you haven't seen them yet. The best thing to happen to slide playing.

i use the actual ibanez ts for live work. much easier to carry around than the gnx. plus if someone spills a beer on it, i won't have to kill them

as long as you keep it below the distortion point, it really adds a lot of warmth and 'goodness' to the sound.

Cool Im pshyched you guys started this post. The myspace people kinda suck. It seems with an electric piezo pick up we have a bit of a challange. I was thinking of getting rid of my GNX4, but now I may just go with it. Its kinda frustrating getting used to every thing. I dont think I like the lupe or multi track recorder but Ill get used to it. Iv got a Martin with a fishmen pick up. People have said you can get a different pick up to help with the \"pingy \" or \"popyness\" of the o.g. electric piezo pick up.

Don't give up on your GNX too quickly. It's an awesome unit. It's a complex peice o' gear that requires you to be familiar with it to get the most out of it. Be patient, experiment, and check out the tutorials online at DT (http://www.guitarworkstation.com/tutorials.htm), they're very good. And keep your manual handy for reference, it'll answer a lot of basic questions.
And post tunez for us. We need things to keep our lives interesting.
