I probably coulda got more for it if I wanted to hold out and let the auction run out...but I put a Buy It Now option in there to see if anyone wanted it that badly. Frankly, if I come even close to breaking even on gear it's a major accomplishment. I wish I coulda done that in my past, I'd be a rich fella and Elizabeth woulda married me instead of that guat from the middle east.

Anyway, after a pair of D/M PAF Pro's, a graphite bridge, and several bux worth of luthier's attention, my Ibanez is now playing beautifully, so that has become my sole electric ax. I won't start collecting axes again until I can afford ones like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=230210740735&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=013
  • I'm so glad you got your Ibby sorted 8) 8) all a guitar is...is wood/metal/electronics,its how much \"mojo\" is in one that makes it a serious player  your \"Ibby\" finally got the right \"mojo\" 8) 8)

Yeah, I don't know what it was...when I bought it, I liked it, but didn't play it much, 'cuz I had my Jackson, which I really dug and had modded to be a really tasty rig.
Then I decided to put the 'binez into playing shape, cuz it had great features: 24 fret neck, hard tail/through body, light and beautiful. (why can't I find a woman like that??? ). The stock pups were pretty lame though, and I had all those tuning problems.
So I started with the pups - I got a pair of D/M PAF Pro's, and put them in wired for coil tapping. They sound aMAZing.
Then I started exploring the tuning problems...it turns out that despite pearl and abalone inlays and binding, and a beautiful quilt maple top, the thing was built with a ten-cent plastic nut. :? Sheesh. So I replaced it with a Trem-Nut, which is graphite, but I apparently cut the slots at the wrong \"angle of declination\" (for all youse ej-oo-cated guyz). So even though it would STAY in tune, it was impossible to GET into tune. So...I swallowed my pride and choked up the bux to take it to a more experienced luthier, who re-cut the nut, shimmed it to proper position, and did the basic setup.
Now the thing tunes, plays, and sounds like a dream...a great example of how moderately-priced Ibanez git'rs, when properly setup, can be a great git'r at a great price. Very high on the price/value index. Not that I wouldn't LOVE a nice PRS or a Gibby Custom Shop ES356...
But...now that I'm not fighting the thing to get/stay in tune, or to get the sound out of it I want, I'm putting lots of playing time and good mojo lovin' into it, and I dig it so much I sold my Jackson and the 'binez is my full time electric. At least until I get my old ES355 back... The guy I sold it to for $750 in 1982 probably kept it 'til last year, then sold it and bought a yacht.
  • Shredd....I'm with you on Gibby semi-hollow bodies.

I bought an ES335 reissue a decade ago....I swear I'll NEVER sell it.
That guitar is really my baby. It is just sooooo damn versitile. Cost me a ton, but worth every penny. (Plus I had to hide it from my wife for over a year!......you know how it is, don't cha??)

I've owned a lot of guitars over the years.....all the brands....and I just keep gravitating back to Gibbys for some reason.....though most are stupidly over priced.

I have a SG Standard (I bought on ebay) and still probably play it the most......for the obvious reasons. Super cool, super light weight, super sound, great neck, and really just GREAT to play.

Any new gear comin up in Shredd's 2008 calender year?????

Although I know you have a GNX4 (you luckly pup), and awesome 2031A's..........so probably NOT!
  • Overpriced or not, Gibby makes a fine fiddle...
I envy you your SG. That's a fine ax also.
I've dabbled with the idea of blowing the cash it'd take to pick up an ES356 (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/search/detail/base_id/105818), since my vintage '68 ES355 is only a memory of the stupidest act I've ever been guilty of (selling it... ). It'd surely be an ax I'd own for the rest of my life; I just can't seem to justify blowing nearly 4 grand, and I don't even have a wife to explain it to!!!!
But I'm very happy with the gear I'm into now...I went on a bad G/A/S binge over the last 12-18 months, and got some pretty cool stuff, including my 2031a's, which I love, my Tascam 2488, which I love, got my Ibanez all decked out, my Peavey Grind bass...yada. So I'm pretty happily set up for gear now, but tasty axes always get my panties wet. Like the Taylor T5 Custom Koa (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/search/detail/base_id/132621), a Gibby ES137 Custom (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibson-ES137-Custom-Electric-Guitar?sku=517198)...drool, drool....
  • Those Gibbys are so nice.

I used to have GAS all the time.....gear, gear, gear.

Finally my guitars are totally up to snuff....no more real \"experimenting\".

BUT, I just may opt for a new RP500 this Spring. (I know, it never really stops!)

    Taylor.....YES!!!
Have you seen the new Taylor SolidBody Custom, Standard and Classic Electrics??...............Look NICE.
