RP500... whoa!

http://www.digitech.com/products/RP500/index.php

Did this just get put up on the site? I was *this* close to pulling the trigger on an RP350 (my GNX3k just died) and I stumbled across this. Googling \"digitech rp500\" turns up like 5 hits, all of them typos of RP50.

I'm excited see this hit stores. Until then, I'll hold of on the 350.

  • Namms today right? anybody get a video of this in action...looks cool.
  • Is this just what we've been looking for??.......maybe!

    Goodbye GNX3000....hello RP500......

I for one am VERY EXCITED!!! (I knew something was up with Digitech)

    What do you guys think?
  • Tempting....so tempting. Price?

On initial inspection this struck me as a strange product. I do really like the design though.

They have dropped the bass amps and cabs, which is sad, although it is exciting to see Orange and Randall and 5150 amps make it into the list.

The up/down switches seem like they could get in the way. It seems like in order to press them it would be inevitable that the expression pedal would get pressed. And why put them so close to the display. Maybe it is a really big board, but otherwise it seems like stepping on the display is going to be a common thing. Line 6 handled this well with the handle bar.

It is good to see the removal of the press 2 buttons to get functionality paradigm removed. I don't have big feet by any stretch of the imagination and the number of times I've activated bypass or tuner instead of a preset change is embarrassing.

The reason I found this product strange is because I am wondering where this leaves the RP[5|7|9]0 and RPx400 series? And haven't they just killed the RP350 with this board? I see Digitech have reissued the RP70 and RP90 with the new Audio DNA2 chip. I understand the market position of the RPx50 series and now this new RP500, but why continue with the rest of the RP series?

I own the GNX3K and although I don't use warp myself, I like the fact that it is at least possible for others to create new amps. I don't use the drum machine, or do any warping myself, or use the recording control functionality on the board, but I do record digitally to the computer. This RP500 is basically everything I need, however, as a complete nerd, I really like the fact that the GNX series can have user created amps. Even if Digitech didn't make it a highly marketed feature, it would be great if they could continue with user amp creation so sites like supermodels and guitar logic have something new to play with. On another nerd topic, I would be impressed if Digitech could include a JACK output stream as well as ASIO. JACK output alone would make me get a new board.

Just curious, where are the RP forums? The message board system off the Digitech page is painful.
  • looks cool. I took a quick look at the amp model list and it looks tasty...

One thing I wonder about about these products (GNX's, RP's, etc.) is why they haven't been made in such a way that you can change the order of the fx chain.

My 1980's era Ibanez UE-400 has this \"insta-patch\" feature that allows you to mix and match the order of compressor / distortion / chorus / phaser / external loop. It's great and I wish my GNX3 had it.

Anyone know? New feature for the GNX10k? Or is it there and I'm missing it?

    -Rf.
  • Looks very cool! 8) Will be interesting to hear how much this baby cost?
  • This would be excellent for live use/ band jamming. I would still keep my gnx4 for practise though.
  • 1 Month old gnx3000 and supermodels for sale! As soon as this baby hits the market, I'm gonna check it out.
  • Is this just what we've been looking for??....... maybe!

    What do you guys think?

No warp... no mic/line inputs... expression pedal assignability seems limited (and footswitch non-existent)... no MIDI... single CPU chip... I see just about nothing about this that \"replaces\" GNX3000, except that it's a new Digitech processor with lots of buttons. But I'd like to see some photos of the back and a user manual, before I pass final judgment.
  • the rp500 looks cool .......but the new roland boss gt10 and the tc electronics nova system also look cool...which one will be the best for the money???????? :?:

Personally, if you give me 2 really good distorted amps (say, a Marshall character and a Rectifier character) and 2 really good clean amps (say, a Blackface character and an AC30), I'll never need Warp. I went 6 months with my GNX3k without plugging it into the USB because I had those four Supermodels stored on it. Really, I think Warp is only useful to improve less-than-stellar models. Maybe that's just me...

I definitely hadn't heard about a TC Electronics modeller... now I've got even more research to do!
  • Well, the GNX3000 is gone from MF....bummer I guess...
I guess we need some pricing and more info on the RP500. Could be cool......

Wish we could see the manual!
  • I'm glad they kept the good ol' Synth Talk. It worked so well on earlier models

Well, the point really is that the Warp feature opened up (in quite an indirect way) a lot of internal functionality within the GNX that is not otherwise available through regular parameters. Now, either Digitech thinks that their new models sound good enough to not require this, or they don't feel enough people would use it to justify the cost of developing this feature. It is, nonetheless, a major plus for technical and/or curious users.
  • I saw an email about the RP500. Personally, I'd be more excited about a new GNX5 with improvements that we all have dreamed about. Doesn't look like that will happen. IMHO, the GNX4 is still the best bang for the buck. At least, for me and what I want. Take care.

+1 on that. C'mon DT, blow my doors off. Or at least pass my phone # on to Cameron Diaz.

:? Ya I personally dont want to \"have\" to warp to get a great tone. I now expect units to just rawk out of the box like my Vocalist live 2 or my bad monkey...to me right now the once attraction of being able to get detailed tweeking out of your pedal is replaced by...\"I shouldnt have to go that freekin deep to get a great tone\", I am sick of factory settings being cr@p and the excuses about diffrent gear thats not a jab at just Digitech but at most of the MFX modelers...make it better ...like \"hey I plug it in and there are tons of stuff that sound great on alot of diffrent gear... I just salt to taste is all 8) the newer RPs are somewhat more like that ..I have come to the personal conclusion that haveing to tweek that deep to get a great sound means its not that great in the first place. I hope thats what they are going for with this new pedal. I love the fact its gotta a one button cancels all amp models and cabnets so you can easily use it as a fx only board ...thats pretty cool.
:D These days I find I never have to \"never-endingly- tweek\" my favorite products I just play them...those are the winning products for me no exuses they just rawk \"outofbox\"JM2Cents. ;)

Shredd, Your constant female-spamming is beyond cute and well into sad.. Sorry, I couldn't control my thoughts anymore and needed to post since you never tend to edit yourself in this regard anyway. I like this board for real discussion on subjects around Digitech / Guitar-related products and your CONSTANT sophmoric & degrading rhetoric is just frustrating and lame.
  • Shred.....I'll take one Cameron Diaz...(love her legs) and raise you one Jolie...(tho I think she's a bit wacky)

Keep rockin Shredd....I personally get a kick out of your comments.....

    Oh....and my Behringers rock!!!!!!
  • hmmm. I know I should probably relax ( had a bad day) ... But I won't apologize for the rant. If I have to be subjected to the same stale junk over and over then I'll just start wasting everyones time with stale junk as well...I now realize I've just probably just agitated and reinforced the behavior but I couldn't help myself...Sorry all, I'll go away again for another 10 or so months....
  • Somebody needs a little trim! Not to close to the ears. Ouch. Angelina quick bring a band aide!!!
  • I think shredd has great taste in women
