My first song in English: GirlGrind!!!

All right! This is an attempt to try to redo an old song I had recorded with this band I was playing with for a while. I did it last night and got it finished at around 1 am so I don't remember exactly if it is any good. Also, I've been a little sick so the vocals aren't perfect but I figured what the hell. The music was a demo version of the song they had given when I was working on the solo. The only guitars I added to the mix were the distorted guitar at the intro/solo, the lead fills throughout the song, and the solo. Let me know what you think.

Here you can find the original version of the song so you guys can compare. Please, any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

  • IMHO:
Good song - but you might wanna let your head cold clear up and re-do the mix a bit...the stuff you added in sounded good by itself, but didn't fit in the mix.
  • Thanks shredd :D . I definitely will record the vocals again. I though they sounded too grungy. I'll let you all know when I redo them! Thanks again!
  • Excelent sound, good vocal and lead, steady rhythum and drum. Is this all you? or a band. how do you do drums? I like the strings alot too. Please tell me what you use for recording software and how you like your systems. A really good post, Thanks for the tune.
  • Thanks DenSco! Well unfortunately I can't take credit for all the mix. We had set up a mini-studio at our singers house and that is where we did that original recording. Our keyboard player is a sound engineer and knows a lot about running sound systems and getting stuff to sound good. He set up everything and did the mixing. I did all the guitars only on that first mix which you can find on the myspace link above (myspace.com/hurakarrana). I had a version of the song without vocals and without leads that I had gotten so that I could come up with the solo. So I just used that mix to redo the vocals and the leads. We used an 8 track recorder we had purchased with gig money and software was Sonar Home I think version 2. I used an SM57 to do the vocals through the GNX4 onto PTP. Let me know if you need anything else.
  • Hey bro the Vocals were not that bad? A few rough spots here & there? They need to come up some in the mix. On the Myspace page who is that singing? It does not sound like you. I like the song! It was interesting & had a good vibe to it. Good guitars. I think what you added was fine! I like the drums!! How were they done?
  • Hey partch! First of all thanks man! And you are correct, the vocals on myspace are not mine. That was our singer Jerry back when we had the band together before I moved. We had some good times but the problem was that the leaders of the band were very lazy and never got anything done. You know we used gig money to set up our own little studio so that we could get our songs down and we only ended up recording like 4 songs! We would always joke around that our keyboard player (the leader of the band and the one that knew all about recording and stuff) moved in only two speeds: Slow and Stop. But anyways, the drums on the song are my favorite from the couple of songs we recorded and each drum track was recorded differently for each of the three songs on myspace. The song titled Yo Y Mi Ruka was actually recorded in a studio here in San Antonio, TX. We got charged like $90/hr to do them and I don't think they sound that great! In fact it was because we realized that studio time was so expensive that we decided to save up for our own equipment. The second drums we recorded in our singer's living room and those were for the song Girl Grind. We had set up the recorder and board in one of his empty rooms and recorded from there. We put microphones on the drums and got those great drums. i don't know how our keyboard player did it but he made they sound awesome. After that, we moved all our stuff to our singer's garage. We even made 3 rooms in his garage: a vocal booth, a control room (recorder, board, monitors, rack, etc.), and a large area for the instruments. We recorded the drums for Everyday using this set up. Well let me know if you need anything else!
