Import/export taxes... I'm going to USA!
Or rather, my brother is
Anyway, I thought while he is over there, I should take advantage of the cheaper (like half the price) music gear and ask him to buy some things.
However, the thought popped into my head that there might be laws/taxes involving taking musical gear out of USA that would bump up the price. Do you know of any?
The majority of you guys being citizens of the USA should have no trouble answering this one!

ANNNNYway...I don't know that there's any tax on exporting something like a GNX. There are laws here about exporting certain technologies, but I don't imagine a GNX or a chorus pedal would be considered classified technology or anything. But since 9/11, ya never can tell...I flew from Salt Lake City to Seattle recently and I was strip-searched, gagged, and duct-taped to my seat - \"in the interest of national security\".
Just kidding. I imagine the only taxation/duty you'd pay would be bringing items into AU. And for what it'd be, it'd probably be worth it, considering what a GNX costs there.
But also - don't forget the AC power differences...everything here is 110/120VAC @ 60Hz. Flat, two-pronged blades parallel to each other.
Anyhow, stock up. the dollar has gone to the crapper, so the exchange rate is big time in your favor, along with the prices being much lower here.
How does the currency exchange rate affect hott Aussie womens' interest in USA???
Hey, Shred finally got some action...
I wouldnt be importing masses of gear, just an audio interface or so, so the taxes here wont apply (over a certain amount of $$$). I am looking at an Alesis firewire mixer/interface. I see reviews written proclaiming it as a \"budget\" piece of gear, but I can tell you the price here is most definitely going to take up the whole \"budget\"
@Shredd, I imagine the favourable exchange rate would mean that shopping in the USA is now more desirable  . Also, on some gear I can get a generic power supply and/or has multirange a power supply.
Anyway 'hoot, prices are good in US right now, and our $ is so weak that it compares favorably in exchange with almost any currency. So now is a very good time to spend money here. Businesses are hurting and the deals are good. If you can find a device for the power requirments you have, you'll do well.
But not as well as you would if you were \"accompianied\" by one of those amazing Aussie cuties to leave here with me. I'd send you home with a brand new Les Paul. 8)

I will most likely be purchasing recording gear. I have narrowed it down to the Alesis Multimix 16 USB 2.0 (18 in, 2 out multichannel) or the zoom HD16 multichannel recorder/controller. I am leaning towards the multimix as I far prefer editing audio etc on the computer, rather than doing it on a little box. It is also cheaper.
