Gibson Melody Maker

OK so I want an everyday player with a p90 or single coils for tone and as a complement to the humbuckers I have in my SG standard.
my choice ...the usa(nashvile) made Gibson Melody maker.
It comes in 2 varietes the 1 single coil version.
and the 2 single coil version only GC sells for Gibson.
I noticed that the 1 single coil version (349.00) says NECK
Species: Mahogany
Profile: Rounded
The GC version that has the extra neck pup is 399.00 but says
Species: Spanish Cedar or equivalent
Profile: '59 rounded
whats up with that should I care? I like the idea od 2 pups but not if the neck is less kewl....what are youguys thoughts

  • Always liked those Melody Makers, and thier sister the Les Paul Jr...I guess you'll need to do a side by side coparison on the feel of the neck
  • Spanish Cedar is a sought after tone wood. Martin uses it on some of their mahogany Acoustic guitars. You will see it mostly on Flamenco or Classical guitars, but Gibson has made some LP's with those necks, and Fender has used them on some Telecasters.

I agree with CB...main thing will be to play both neck shapes, and see which feels best in your hand.

With a Melody Maker, I think you will just use the bridge pickup. That is where that guitar wants to bark and bite. 8)
