Feel the Burn

Hey guys. This is my first serious recording in quite a while. All guitars are GNX3000 through mic'd Atomic amps. Sonar 6 and EZDrummer for the rest of it.

Let me know what you think of the tune, mix, EQ etc. As usual, I think it sounds like poo (compared to what I hear in my head), so honest feedback is appreciated 8)

  • I thought it kicked buty. Great songwriting and playing. Great sounds too.
Sooo...here's my \"constructive criticism\" (which I offer tenuously, 'cuz nothing in my head sounds that good... ):
Drums aren't right in the mix...they got a little buried and they were a hair tinny/thin.
\"Spread out\" the mix a bit, so the different instruments aren't overwhelming each other. During the \"busy\" parts of the song it all runs together.
  • I liked this Rob! Sounded real good to me 8) The Tone was yummy realy did sound fantastic!! I like your Melodys!! Very nice playing Rob :D I like the guitars up front like that!! & that clean softer section around the middle brought something to the song!! I like how you brought it back to the main which was a catchy little rythem riff!! 8) oh yeah almost forgot the whammy use? Excellent!!
  • Shredd, thanks for the feedback! Yep, i'm struggling with the mix a bit. I already have the 3 guitar parts split out at 100%, 75% and center, but still sounding muddy. I'll get er eventually 8) .

Partch, thanks man! I appreciate the feedback and glad you likey 8) .

When I finally started getting some decent mixes put together - the ones I'd listen to and think \"now THAT'S what I heard in my head!!!\" - I was really surprised at some of the panning, and percentages and etc were. Definitely keep experimenting, and use the stuff you're playing - it's great!
  • This gives me some 70's hard rock feelings...really smooth sounding guitars and good solo section.Good stuff...remainds me for old Queen and Zeppelin.
About that panning thing...of course it's matter of taste...but i usually use two different sounding rhythm gtr panned 90%Left and 90%right.Short room reverb in both, level about 85-95(GNX3000 Studio Room).
  • Very Kool man. I always check your stuff out.

The outro was very Led Zep 8)
  • Hey Insideout,

Great tone you have out of the Atomic Amp…sounds great! I wish I had the room set up where I can mike my Atomic Amp but my wife and neighbors would beat the crap out of me. You’re playing and mix sounds great to me. The only thing I can hear and I am guilty of the same thing is the bass and drums are a little buried in the mix. I love the main lead but I think it might be taking a little too much in the 80hz range and fighting with the bass…also the bass needs a little more boost in that range (although I am listening with crappy head phones). Over all I think it sounded great…lets hear more.
    :):):)
  • The guitar is overwhelming. Leave some room in the mid-upper ranges to hear the drums, and lower ranges to get more of the bass in.

The dynamics are a little non-existent... especially in the part around 1:20 where you have the clean guitar come in, the RMS volume needs to come down. Maybe use slower master compression? I know you mentioned this on the guitarlogic forum. I would suggest using a multi-band compressor for the overall mix.

But! I really like this. The tone is great, and the tune is catchy. Nice job.
  • Thanks for the feedback guys!! I'll definitely take these ideas to back to the drawing board when I resume my tweakification 8) 8) . I need to take a class on mastering - I love the recording part, then dread the mix/master part.
  • Hey

Great playing....and man your tone was fantasic. Liked the break in the middle! Really dig your playing. Always good to hear your playing. You are an excellent guitarist

Hope the family is doing well.
  • Thanks Joe!!! Great to hear from you and I appreciate the feedback 8) . Family is well, and hope the same for you :!:

I totally overhauled the mix/master of the tune, so if anyone is interested in spending another 4 minutes with me, I put the link in the first post of this thread 8)
  • insideout, nice guitar work you have going on this one. The drums could come up a bit or lower the guitar. I think I heard a bass in there somewhere, if so bring it up more as well. Overall the mix and sound seem to be working to gether pretty good. Enjoyed this old style rocker. Thanks for sharing. John
  • Man I Like them both buddy!! Great Job Rob!! 8) I suppose the new one is slightly better?? In the middle section I think I hear some difference? Anyhow either or sounded fantastic to me Rob!! Keep em commin bro 8) :D
  • Nice job!
I really liked the Zepplin like riff you had going on.
