good dist/od pedal & effect loop problems

hey

what is a good dist or overdrive pedal that i can use with my dist channel to get more gain?

also, i have a boss ns-2 noise suppressor and i notice that it has a send and return. My effects loop is s**t, so i was wondering if plugging the pedals into the send and return of the ns-2 would be the same as plugging them into the effects loop of my amp. if not, what is the send and return on the ns-2 for? I know these sound like noob questions, sorry........

THANKS

  • Just my opinion, but you can get all the gain you want outta the GNX; not to mention there's some pretty nice stompbox modelling built in. I favor the SparkDrive and BigMuff, myself...but there's about 10-12 of them. Play. The less crap you have in your loop the better, and your GNX should do about anything you could ask for. Except tell you how good you sound or find you adoring groupies, as I'm sorely disappointed to find out. :(

I'm afraid I don't quite understand the second 1/2 of your ?, about the NS-2...CALLING ALL TECH WEENIES!!!
  • damn, i completely forgot this was a GNX forum, i don't use mine anymore. if anyone needs a gnx3000, let me know.

    right now i use a b-52 at-100 head into an avatar 4x12 cab w/ celestion vintage 30's

but, if anyone knows the answers to my questions, it would be great

    thanks
  • The loop on an NS-2 is different than the loop on your amp. The loop on your amp allows you to put effects between the preamp and poweramp. You typically want compression, noise gate, wah, distortion (in that order) before preamp, and mod effects like delay, chorus, flanger etc after the pre and just into the poweramp (in the amp fx loop). The NS-2 has a loop on it so you can plug guitar into it, and run your other stomps that come before preamp in its loop to eliminate any noise that they may introduce. I would still run delay/chorus etc through your amp fx loop (they won't sound as pure going through the coloring your preamp puts on the tone.

    Hope that makes sense 8)
  • I run a Bad Monkey distortion in front of my Marshall JCM800 and it is absolutley SWEEEEET
  • thanks for the info. and yea, i have heard really good things about the bad monkey dist
