Mangling The Classics #9

This one was a grunt - I recorded the vocals sick as a dog, couldn't get my Roland to sound like a piano, and couldn't get Shania Twain to come over and rub my shoulders between takes. But it's better than picking lint out of my belly button.
Anyway, it was recorded all on my GNX4 except for \"vocals\". My standard layout: Jackson Performer SSH, Ibanez bass, GNX4, Roland Juno-60, and cheezy GNX drums.

  • Hey Shredd hope you get to feeling better. Anyhow I did not think this was bad? Pretty good job bro!! I don't know the Original, BUT i enjoyed this as all your stuff is done well 8) Good job Shredd :D
  • Hey shredd! This has got pretty good potential! I really like the action in your voice (vocals) You definitely have something distinctive and cool there!!! If this piece was polished up a bit it would really shine as far as being more accessible to the \"industry\" mind set. For my two cents worth though I like the rough and real (non-billion dollar studio) element.......Belly button lint?....OOOHHH!..............I feel a song comin' on! :)

Wellll...as usual, I didn't spend near the time needed on it...nailing the effects, adding the little licks here n there, etc. Covers are kinda for fun, although I did spend a lot of time with Lunatic Fringe, mostly 'cuz I'm pretty lame on KB's. But then again, I didn't have a recorder that did \"virtual tracks\" then!
But I don't polish them too much...besides, I don't play ANYthing well enough to really cover accurately, so mostly they're my \"interpretations\". And my singing voice (even when I'm not sick) isn't in a great register for most popular songs. I actually played this one in the original key and one step down, to see which'd come out better, and had to record it in the lower key.
I tend to spend more time on my own projects and stuff I've written, so it'll sound like what I hear in my head. That's the fun. Except for when Shania Twain rubs my shoulders between takes.
  • I hear ya' man! With me doing my own shtick is pretty much the only thing!I'm not disciplined enough to do other folks stuff :) Plus when I make mistakes in playing or production I can just claim \"Hey man!\" \"That's the way it's supposed to sound!\" :) Putting down stuff you hear in your head can be a trip! Especially my head, (there's some weird stuff goin' on in thar\")

Tell me about it. Have you listened to my \"Tasha\" stuff? That was directly generated from in-my-head daydreaming...\"I do what the voices in my head tell me to\"...
