King of the Blues

http://www.digitech.com/soundcomm/guitar_view_music.asp?productid=199&music_id=3008

Well, even though I didn't get out of the first round at the competition, I was inspired to write this. I hope y'alll enjoy it.

King of the Blues - Phil \"P. Willie\" Flood ? 2007 Phil Flood/LottaWatta Music

I ain't no prince
I sure ain't no queen
I ain't the baddest mutha that you ever seen
But when I step to that mic
And I start to sing
I'm the King of the Blues,
Yeah the Blues is my thing

Chorus:

Oh Baby, don't you know I'm the King?
And the King, he knows everything

I ain't got no castle
Ain't got no moat
Can't raise no army
I got no navy boat
But when I'm on stage
And I start to play
I'm the King of the Blues,
Yeah that's what they say

Chorus, lead break, chorus

I ain't got no harem
No kept concubine
I just got one woman
And she's fine and all mine
And when I'm done doin' my blues playin' thing
She lets me know why I'm still the King

Chorus, Chorus

  • Hey Pretty cool there Phil!! I'm glad you were able to get it uploaded!! It has been a while since I've heard anything from you. This was cool! Hey how are you liking your Valve Jr? You did say you got one of those right? Talk to you later bro.
  • i haven't reallly had time to do anything much with the Valve Jr. I checked out sites that have mods for it, and it looks like a good little platform to play around on while not risking a fortune. But, as it is, it sounded OK to me. (I don't really get the complaints about the Sovtek tubes vs. the JJ's. Each tube is different,. You can get lousy sounding JJ's, too.) I've just been real tied up, I had weekly gigs at a place until last week, and I was trying to start an open mic, and I had to get my taxes done. I literally finished the taxes and then started working on the recording for King of the Blues, cause I wanted to get that up for everyone here on the forum.
  • Nice offering dude! I like your lead style. This is probably a dum question; is it possible to do the vocals an octave lower? Just curious.
  • I doubt that I can go an octave lower, but I get your point, that I sound like I'm at the high end of my range. I probably wasn't in my best voice when I recorded this, but I might try to do it lower. I'll give it a shot next time I'm doing vocals and I'll post the results. Thanks!
  • YEAAAAAAA BABBBBY THe KiNg! Say you don't beat women do you? Ha!
NO, really, just kidding around. Nice guitar work. Keep working on those vocals a bit but nice little blues song. Great effort!!
  • Just checked out your new version. Yeah! Gives it a little more down and dirtiness. A little more dirt under the fingernails! Both have merit; I guess it's just which range your comfortable with that matters. Good job! :)
  • I liked the first 8) Just my opinion :D
  • Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to a Blues festival in Mississippi in July, so I'lll try it out down there and see what folks think. I tend to sing it in the higher register primarily to have the vocal cut through the mix, but I'm going to play it both way for awhile to see what people think. I think it does have a certain feeling of nastiness in the lower range. Thanks again.
  • Good tune 'flood...I envy your ability to song-write. Although I empathize with your vocal-range issues. It seems most popular music carries higher-range vocals; when I try to sing them I sound like a strangled cat. Or else I'm scraping the bottom of my range. I've actually recorded things in different keys, in order to accomodate vocals. 'course, I wouldn't have this problem if Robert Plant and Pat Benatar were returning my phone calls...
PS FWIW, I liked the higher vocals...
