Whats in the works?

<div style="displaynone">fiogf49gjkf0d</div>Hey!

I have been using a GNX 3 for playing live for two years now. I love it. but its starting to get old, and i'm looking to get another GNX and keeping the old one as a spare.

Will there be a new model GNX coming out in the near future? Are they working on a new model? If a new one is coming out should i wait for it....
or should i buy a GNX 3, GNX 4, Or a GNX 3000?

I have been looking at a GNX3K and i like the low imp. outputs. I plug directly into the snake. But i'm interested in getting your take on the subject.

Thanks

  • As if MY take is worth anything...Jenn won't even return my phone calls.
BUT....here's what I think. If you're seriously into tone and modeling, get the 3K. Otherwise, the GNX4 is the most useful and versatile. It has low impedance outs AND USB for recording and other computer-connected fuctions, if you see fit.
The '4 costs a coupla bills more than the '3, so if you're happy with the '3 and you've figured out how to satisfactorily hook it to your system or puter, then save some bux and get another '3.
The '4 has more preset space and can store them on CF cards, which is very cool for live shows or recording sessions; the drums are better and there's more of them; and there's the larger/more easily available storage issue (CF cards).
SO...unless you need the 3K, go for the '4. If you're tight on dough, get a '3. Or wait for DT to come out with something better than the 3K.
And have Jenn call me. 8)
  • GNX3k is the latest. You might want to check out the new RP series (by that I mean try them out, not necessarily go buy one) - that's the level of modeling and effects flexibility that's coming out. I think it's pretty impressive. Digitech is also putting out a rackmount GNX-like unit, focusing again on amp modeling and effects: http://www.digitech.com/products/GSP1101/

I haven't tried it, but I can't imagine it being bad.
  • I hope the rack mount is much more than a rehousing of older technology, with some better inputs and outputs

We should be hearing sounds from DT like--

    more triggered effects

    beat synced effects

    User definable effects

repositionable effects ( Wah before fuzz or after ? )

Tapable signal chain ( split the signal, part goes to a delay and the other to a phaser, add them up again etc etc)

Dual instance of effects ( eg equaliser, fuzz, equaliser)

configurable tone stacks ( before or after distortion, Fenderesque/marshalesque or Baxandall)

    Multiband processing

    Synth functions

Dual channel processing ( Fender on left and Marshall on right)

Guitar simulation ( DT is not present in this arena at the moment. They need to get in on a good thing fast !!!!)

    ........................

Please feel free to add what you wished was in the works.
  • Jeez, I'd be tickled if I could just use more than one modulaton effect at once.
