Looking for ideas to refinish project git'r
Hi all - now's your chance to let your creative side shine and show all the others here how brilliant you are.
I just got a middle-quality gitr that needs a bit o work, and I'm considering disaasembling it for a refinish, as the factory paint ain't so pretty. It's a solid body, bolt-on, shaped basically like a Jackson Dinky; H/S/H, Floyd Rose, 2 knobs & switch.
So I'm looking for ideas, photos, websites, anything that'll give me kewl ideas on how I might refinish it, that I can accomplish myself (I'm pretty handy). I don't want to spend hundress to refinish a git'r that didn't even cost that much. So I'm all ears. PM me if you have pics to send.

Take some before and after photos...projects like this are too cool.
Are you using the same guts...or planing on any upgrades. I know you are handy with the innards.
So...what kinda wood is this? neck and body. I'm guessing maple neck? What kinda fretboard? You decided yet on a solid finish or transparent?
...hint...paste Liz Hurley's face on the lower backside...
So, 'tou - I don't know a ton about the ax I'm gonna work on, other than it's an early '90's Ibanez EX with H-S-H and a F/Rose. I suspect it's a standard wood body, possibly 3-peice/bolt-on. The Floyd is a little messed up, and I'm either going to 'rebuild' it to proper function, or mount it rigid like I did with the last one I had. It's got a really nice rosewood fretboard w/24 medium frets and killer inlays.
I don't think I'll be doing any electonic/electrical upgrades; it seems to have decent pups on it already and if they sound good, I'll leave all that as it is.
I haven't decided about the finish. Right now it's this pukey light purple mettalic (ah, memories of late 80's hair bands....) If it's really spectacular wood underneath ( ) I'll go transparent, maybe with a color wash. Otherwise I'll be doing something neat, like I've seen on these sites - material, holographic, burnt wood, something like that. Sadly, I'm not well equipped for really exotic paint work, so I'm going to have to keep it simple.
I saw one site that shows you how to put a flamed top on a body, I moght go that route. I'll take pics...stay tuned!
And thanks for the help guys!

First I got a book of art by M.C. Escher and did a collage (a patchwork picture) on the body of the bass. I cut out pictures of his buildings and landscapes, and glued them down wherever they seemed to look good. Then I put some coatings on it to protect the art and to get the color I wanted. I converted it to fretless too. Yesterday my son told his friend…”my dad tricked out his bass”. So yeah…that’s it…I tricked it out. This is a tricked out bass.
