Satch - Cryin

Just what we need. Another cover of Cryin lol...

Actually mixed up a couple spots, but if you ignore the way Satch played it, it's not too bad, but I think my vibrato was dialed this time round. Don't forget guys I've only played for about seven years (five years, then about four off, then about two here and there up until completely putting it down seems like ages ago) before a ten or twelve year lay off and have only been back at it since December. ;)

  • Let me start by saying that this is a very hard song to record. The timing and nature of the bends one needs to perform on this one alone make it tough. I have tried this song many times and failed miserably and I have been playing for 20 years.

That being said I think this was awesome. Your phrasing and bend control was awesome. You also got very close to Satch's tone.

Well done and keep on playing and recording as you have some talent there mate. 8)

EDIT - Great sounding and beautiful looking guitar is that an Ibanez S370?
  • Well Ithought that was amazing!
I'm a huge satch fan myself and I would imagine him being flattered by that rendition. 8)
I'm much more of an improviser than a song player, but that has inspired me to have a go....think I'll start with something a bit simpler though

Where did u get the backing?
or did u do it yourself?
  • Wow thanks guys!!!

The patch is the stock Satriani patch with the GNX3000.
Guitar is an S520EX and yes I love it. I took it to a very talented luthier in Old Town Roseville and he really dialed it in. Intonation is now perfect, and the action is amazingly low.

I got the backing track from online somewhere. I'll have to look it up and see if I can find it again. The only tweaks I made to it were with EQ and added some reverb to it.
  • MH,

I enjoyed that. Nice job man..Never listened to Satriani before.

I'm like you. I've been working for the past 25 yrs and now trying to get back into my music. Haven't played elec for that whole time.

I finally did a 3 min blues jam with the VH patch just off the cuff and spontaneous but with so many good players here, I'm a little paranoid to post it.

I've learnt a lot from the comments in here 8)
  • Johnuk,

    Ok then.

Just realize I recorded it to the GNX4 FC after abt 2+ bottles of vino. I then changed the vols and did a little pan with PTP.

Bad thing is the ramp version is low quality 16bit..

Ok I'll make a new post with my poor attempt at playing.

    thanks for your support man...

  • feel > skill

The biggest trick in music is learning to let go of who you are and what you think you can do, and to just let it flow. When you feel insecure, it comes through in your playing and you could nine times out of ten turn around and play the same thing with conviction and it will own.
  • MH,

Thats what i did..just played and let it flow. no contrivances or preparation..\\\
    I agree..

  • Very nice.

You have more guts than me attempting Satriani stuff.

    Lovely guitar 8)
