  • Did you install a new OS? or XP? ? other?

    Does XEDIT work?

If you changed to Vista, you may have compatability probs.

If Xp, do you have NET framework and XP service packs installed?

If all the drivers are listed and installed correctly, check the above and provide details of your install method. If it seems specific to your hardware or a corrupt file contact Shane at Digitech cust support. He may have some drivers, etc he can send you.
  • IF YOU REFORMATTED, YOU MAY NEED TO GO TO WWW.MICROSOFT.COM AND REDOWNLOAD AND INSTALL SERVICE PAK 2 AND .NET FRAMEWORK
  • This doesn't sound like an OS, .Net, or driver error to me...

It sounds like the \"missing audio file\" message is coming from ptp? If so then you might have somehow removed the audio file you recorded that ptp is looking for in the ptp project. I don't know ptp at all, but Sonar has several different ways that it will store the recorded audio files, depending on how you set your preferences. You can store them in a global Cakewalk projects folder, or you can store them in the same folder as each project that you are working on. If you change these preferences or monkey around with these audio files (move/rename/delete) you'll break the project because Sonar won't be able to load the audio files for the project. Since ptp is made by Cakewalk I would assume that it works much the same way. The \"revert to silence\" message makes sense, since ptp told you it couldn't find the file but let you still open the project with nothing there, so it's just playing \"silence\" instead of the audio file it was expecting to be there.

If you think this is the problem then I would do a search for all the *.wav files on your system and see if you can find some files under a cakewalk folder somewhere. They might have names that look like gibberish. You should be able to open these with anything that will play a wav file and then listen to them and figure out which projects they go with. Then you might be able to open the ptp projects and ignore the error, and then re-insert these files to the ptp project.

Hope that makes sense, and good luck,
    Scott
  • you're basically saying the ptp projects and .wav files might be in different folders? that makes sense becaue i backed the ptp projects on a different drive before reformating. when i get the 'missing audio file' window it's trying to open a file that's in ptp on the c:\\.

is it possible to move the projects but not the .wav and thus formatted the .wav file?

Audio files are usually stored in a separate audio data folder. This is specified in program options. You should be able to locate missing audio if you find the correct folder where they were originally saved.
  • You should be able to move the project files, but those projects will still expect to find the wav files in the original spot. But... you should be able to open the project, get the missing file error, ignore it, and then re-insert the correct wav file in it's new location. It will be a bit of voodoo to get all the projects and wav files back in sync, but it should be possible.

For your future projects you can set your preferences to save audio files onto the new location, and your new stuff should work fine.

As I said before... good luck!
