Guitar Amp Humming ????
I played live last week in a pub and I had a major hum coming from my setup. My setup is as follows, GNX3 LH output to guitar amp as a monitor and the RH GNX3 output direct to the mixer. When I turned on the system a loud hum went through the entire system. During troubleshooting I found out that my guitar amp was causing the hum and fed back through the entire system. Once i removed the amp from the system the hum went away.
I did try pluging the amp into multiple wall jacks with no guitar leads etc and the hum was always present. I've concluded there is dirty power?, bad ground? or interference in the air at this place? I tried at home and the amp was silent, with no problems, other venues I had no problems. None of the other musicians in the band had the same problem as me with a similar setup - minus the GNX.
This pub did have alot of neon lights, flouresent signs, dimmers etc.
Now to the question, what would be the best solution to try and reduce this hum. I like this setup I am using and would like to keep it but can't live without the separate guitar amp monitor. I read about Hum eliminators which kill ground loops, power conditioners, etc. Any ideas, as to what may work?

You could try putting a DI between the GNX and the mixer, or find one of the \"buzz-off\" or \"hum-off\" boxes (i know Rolls makes one) and use it either between the GNX and the mixer, or the GNX and the amp.. that should help break up any grounding problems.
Also, get an outlet tester from Radio Shack or whatever the equivalent where you are is; they have a series of lights on them which show you if the ground is hooked up right, if the polarity of the jacks is right, etc....
not only will that let you know if there's a serious wiring problem, it might even save your life by stopping you from plugging into a dangerously miswired jack (if things go wrong, you can get full wall voltage across your guitar.. which would suck...
hope that helps
They run about 100 to 120 bucks. Probably a little cheaper nowdays.
One of my best investments.
Here are some other options to consider: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/navigation?q=humx. Lots of options to think about. If something looks interesting, you could call MF and talk to a tech if you have questions. Good luck.
but you may want to have the amp checked out by a tech.
if only your amp is humming, and your lips touch a mic, you could get the crap knocked out of you.
hope this helps
