Here's a great article that discusses Windows Vista as a platform for pro audio. It goes DEEP, and features the CTO of Cakewalk, and some other heavy hitters. The comments at the end are very interesting and involve some very knowledgeable people. It will be interesting to see where this all goes...

This is interesting:

Noel: You can get non-signed x64 drivers to work. You have to explicitly enable loading of unsigned drivers at boot up time of Vista x64. To allow unsigned drivers, you must press F8 at boot up time of Vista X64 and choose “Disable Driver Signature Enforcement” from the menu. As an example, we have tested the M-Audio FireWire Audiophile x64 drivers under Vista, although they are not signed. Note: Microsoft may remove this option in a future update of Vista.

So.. can anybody tell me why Digitech is dragging its anchor about Vista compatibility and/or ignoring Vista completely - and certainly ignoring patrons and customers by not saying word one (that I am aware of) or making any statements about Vista-related compatibility activities. One would think they would at least say *something* so as not to lose (up-to-now) loyal customers. (??). Beta versions of Windows Vista were made available to developers in plenty of time for Vista compatibility activities to be undertaken and completed in time by third party software and hardware vendors who have products that already play nice with Windows XP - Digitech is one of these vendors for the release to the public of Vista. I am a bit perplexed... and a less enthusiastic Digitechie as a result. Not that I am waiting for Digitech to achieve Vista-compatibility so I can run right out and upgrade to Vista but it is annoying to think that even if I REALLY wanted to upgrade to Vista, my investment in Digitech hardware/software/drivers would be holding me hostage and preventing me from doing so... (pout... whine... moan).

If I am off base and/or mis-informed, I apologize in advance for this reply and somebody please enlighten me.

They just announced that Vista drivers are in the works. It's in small print, below the login link to the software page. So they're out there, it's just that it's still not completed. Last I heard they are targetting this summer.

Don't get me wrong.. I LOVE my GNX's - they have enabled me to make achievements that I am convinced would not have been as easy or as rewarding with a competitor's product(s) but ...this (small print statement) to me is so \"Digitechpical\"... it's a start, anyway.

I guess the race is on then to see who comes out with what first;

Vista drivers and software for Vista
or
Vista Service Pack 2

(I am of course assuming/betting {any takers?} that Service Pack 1 will arrival before Digitech's Vista compatibility efforts come to fruition)
