O.D.H. Remastered

Hey guys, now that I have added a midi keyboard, and BBE Sonic Maximizer to my home studio, as well as learned a lot about the mix/master process, I thought I would remaster this tune. I'll put the before and after so you can hear the difference. I'm sure it's not perfect, but I'm very pleased with the way it turned out. Hope you like it :D

  • Man Rob I remember that one 8) I thought it Rocked then!! BUT Whoa  man alot more volume in this one, deffinetly better mix than the Old I could not even hear the Organ Synth whatever in that clean part torwards the begining of the tune in the old one? Anyhow the melody is excellent Rob just supper phrasing  Hope I can play this well someday :D Man torwards the end of this song it has deffinetly grown on me!! I used to not be extremely well I don't know it just seemed a little out of place or something BUT now I have a totally different impression of it like hey Satch or something you just Shredd it up & creshendo the song bring it to the peak at the end 8) I'd say over all excellent Dynamic tune that just Kicks!! Great Job Rob

 Heck Ya! that kicked it up a notch :!: In definition and tone as well as some extra punch. The keys were cool too. Always a nice added texture to the solo. ...I like :!:

I just got a midi keyboard too. What did you get? I started out with a. M-audio but 25 keys was a bit too short so traded it for the Korg K49. I really dig it. You get about 250 sounds with the lite version of its M1 software too. 119.00 at GC. Keyboards great but I still $uk at playing it
  • Hey Insideout, this mix was very impressive…Everything sounded crystal clear and in its own space. Guitars and there tones was excellent…The only thing that surpassed the mix was those outrageous leads you were doing…okay, I got a million questions…1. Are you using monitors or headphones when you are mixing? 2. Are you using your new Atomic amp for recording? 3. Are you using any other plugins for mixing other than the Maximizer? :):):)
  • Hey there Partch. Thanks man!! Not to worry, you're not losing your mind. I added the keys and tambourine just before remastering 8) . I'm really glad you dig the tune :D .

ODB, great minds think alike. I posted a thread on TSB about buying the Korg K-49, and the next day you posted about it on a different thread. I'm totally loving the sounds this thing makes, and as a VST plugin, it's super easy to pull it into a project. Like you, all I have to do now is learn how to play it :x . Thanks for giving her a listen and the very nice compliments!!

Mr. Kirk! Thanks a million!!. Here goes for your questions... 1. still using headphones and computer speakers since I can't afford decent monitors. I don't want to buy them until I can afford good ones = long way off  . 2. This tune was recorded pre-Atomic. I'm working on a new one that will feature it. Also, the tune I did with ODB \"Darkness Falls\" was with the Atomic. 3. For this tune, the only plugins I used for mastering were EQ, Maximizer, compressor - in that order. For mixing, EQ only.

I really appreciate the comments guys! They mean a LOT coming from guys I respect so much 8)
  • I really dug the remix. Nicely done. The only thing that took me away from this IMHO was the tamborine. Not because it was there, but because I felt it was to busy. Perhaps a slower attack would help. I don't know, it's just the way I heard it. Your lead part at the end was blistering.
  • Most stellar :!: I listened to the re-mix first and then the original, the clarity on the re-mix is much better. The organ after the first intro phrase was pretty cool, made for a nice addition. And I thought somewhere I heard some harmonics, I think after the second time you played the main riff, and then went clean with the rythm guitar did you pluck some harmonic notes kind of in passing?

Anyway, I do believe it's getting better, so much better all the time. hey those sound like possible lyrics.....

    Rock on
  • Stratman, thanks for the review. I really appreciate it. I tend to agree on the tamborine thing. I just got it, and this was the first time I've ever recorded one. It's going to take some experimenting until I get it right.

Mike, thanks man! The BBE definitely makes a strong impact on clarity 8) . As for harmonics, if they are there, I would say a happy accident? I didn't play any intentionally. And as for lyrics... I think you're on to something there - you're going to be a rich, famous rock star
  • Geez...That's a cool mix and sound...Man that's some cool playin'.. Dig it.. 8)
  • Wow, that was amazing Rob. I love the way you play. I liked the bass and keys too. very cool! :)
  • That sure was a booster to the quality...nice playing....I sure dig it...
  • Thanks guys, I really appreciate the reviews 8) 8) 8)
  • Thats real nice, I like the melody.

Reminds me of Eric Johnsons stuff 8)
  • Thanks Slash!! I happen to love all of Eric Johnson's stuff, so that is a REALLY nice compliment 8)
