Using daisy chains?

Is it dangerous or stupid to use a daisy chain to power a number of different pedals from one power supply?

More importantly for me, is it dangerous to do this with a jamman looper pedal?

  • Also, is it wrong to use AC power supplies with pedals that require DC supplies?

I just bought a boss OC-2 that requires a DC supply and had no power supply for it other than a roland 9V AC - I used the AC and it seemed to work OK.
  • A daisy chain is the order of effects pedals. There is a generally accepted order these go for best results.

As far as the power supply. They run off the 9 volt battery, or the AC power supply unit...which is a step down transformer designed to take high line voltages to the 9 volts required by the effects pedals.

1.7 Amp supply - Can power over twenty 9-volt effect pedals or similar devices like modelers.

I'd have to look up the jamman looper before I can comment on it. Does it run on a 9 volt battery?
  • The Jamman runs on a 9V AC.
  • Yes...I looked it up. Yer cool...go ahead and run on your AC power supply. I don't know how long the looper lasts on a 9 volt battery, but probably not as long as stomp boxes. They will go a long, long time on a battery. Long time.

These JamMan's say they come with their own AC adaptor. That may not be the same as a power pac unit. Those are usually around 1.7 amps.

I don't know if you said you have a regular AC daisy chain power pac...or if you are referring to the JamMan adaptor. You will need a power pac designed for multiple hookups.
  • I have a standard Jamman AC power supply (i.e. one with a fat plug and no pack). Are you telling me that I can use this type of pack to power 9V DC effect pedals?
  • No.

Click on the above link. This is the type of power unit I'm referring to. The one that came with your JamMan is only for your JamMan.

You can also go to places like Musician's Friend...or where ever you like to shop and view other power units designed to power up multiple stomp boxes and other 9 volt appliances.

Here are a few more power supplly units to check out.

  • It's also my experiance with sales representitives at places like Musician's Friend and other vendor's...that they know all these products, and compatibilities.

If you tell them your specific needs, they can tell you all the yes and no answers, and refer you to the products that will meet your needs.

That is a good source for definitive product related answers. If you happen to ever stump them, they will check with the manufacturer for you and get back to you.
