Repairing an RP 12

Someone dumped a soda in my RP 12. The Foot Switches have been replaced. Pedal is defaulted on last effect that I used. Volume pedal doesn't work anymore. None of the buttons work anymore. The display is locked on \"05\". I have tried a Hard Reset with no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you

  • Short of giving up and trying to find a used one on eBay, my only suggestion is to carefully open the unit to get access to the board, and to spray everything in sight with electrical contact cleaner. Its anyone's gues whether this will work, but a can of contact spray can be had for a few dollars. You should be able to find it at Radio Shack or an auto parts store. Good luck.
  • And also be careful what you spray it on/in...often those sprays have \"lube\" in them as well, and if you fill a contact switch with that crap it'll never work until you clean every last molecule out. 'flood has the right idea, but I'd suggest using some sort of non-lubricating cleaner.
Or you could send it to me to have a crack at...I revived my Roland Juno from \"the dead\" ( it had been \"ridden hard and put away wet\") via a careful combination of suitable cleaners, meticulous microsurgery, and very careful handling. I'm very proud to have revived it and I enjoy the hell out of it, despite the fact that I play keyboards like John Goodman bobsledding.
All I'd ask is that you put in a good word for me the next time you party with Heather Locklear. 8)
  • Thank you for the replies. I have used alcohol and laquer thinner on various parts of the board that were sticky. One area had a corroded foil. So that was repaired. The switches were full of coke so thats why they were replaced. Either a IC chip is toasted, or I have another foil corroded.
  • sounds like the corrosion has settled in. I would go to Home Depot and get a solvent brush and denatured alcohol. You can't use isopropyl since it leaves a residue and is not a very good cleaner.

You may have to try a factory reset along with the other things.
