Portable recording device

Hi
Is there are product that is portable (ie battery powered) that has a couple mic inputs that have phantom, and records onto compact flash or some other sturdy media?

I would like it for recording sounds/people that are not near electricity (filmmaking/sound effects for songs etc)

    Battery-powered phantom power? I doubt it, but I'll look.

    The question will be how much phantom the unit can supply. If you need a full 48V and don't get it, you compromise the mic sound.

    You might want to look at Zoom's new H4. As a bonus, it supposedly sports the G2's modeling chip.

    I have a Fostex MR-8 that has 8 tracks, two inputs that can be mic/balanced or line/unbal'd; it's small/light, has a shoulder carry case, and it will run on batteries, but I don't beleive it has phantom power. Check her:

    Now that hey have new versions out MR-8MkII and MR-8HD) you can pick up an original MR-8 on ebay for a song, surely less than $150, maybe less than $100.
    I love mine, but it may or may not suit your needs , since I\"m not sure if it has the phantom or not.

    A search with the mighty dial-up( :roll: ) has produced at least 4 models.

    There are portable field mixers also with 48V and then use any battery flash recorder. Shure and Rolls make them.

    Another idea is to use a vehicle DC battery to AC power inverter and simply use all your current home studio gear on location with an extension cord. I have a 1500W one that clamps on the truck battery with jumper cable size wire and gives around 12 A for loud parade PAs. Talk to your local firemen/ambulance providers also about HIGH output alternators they have to run life support gear while the engine simply idles to charge. If noise is not important then a long cord oversized for voltage drop will suffice with a regular 2-5KW portable gas generator. I put an efficient muffler on a little 8HP to quiet it down but enclosures do even better.

    Next weekend I'm taking the power inverter for a Christmas parade for back-up to lift a 40ft Genie manlift with 8 EV horns then power two 70.7 V PA amps. That way we have sound if a promised receptacle trips or one amp dies. For illustration here are some with mutiple voltages and Hz. http://www.kingsoninverter.com/inverter.html The RV industry has an entire appliance line that runs on 12V(including A/V) and also power inverters for regular home ones.

    Yes I need phantom as I will be using condensor mics.

    I havnt thought about using a car battery, but I'll look into everything.
