Disaster averted - and there was much rejoicing!

Since I'm SO popular around here ( ) I was sure you'd all be thrilled to know that my employment disaster - along with the housing that comes with it (a VERY big deal, as I live in one of those places where a decent, affordable place to live is more valuable than a hot tub date with Pamela Anderson) has been averted, at least for the time being. Time will tell if this resolution lasts, but it appears that I'm staying employed (and housed) for at least a while longer. This is a great relief to me, even as I realize I have to \"wait and see\" if this holds up.
And no, I didn't kill my boss's wife.

ANYway...I want to thank you all again for your kind words of encouragement and support when I was in panic mode about what I'd do next, or how I'd live without my guitar by my chair.
Perhaps we can all send our good thoughts and wishes to Shando...

  • Hey shredd,

Thats great news, I'm very happy for you.

Hopefully you won't have to go through it again :)

  • Great news shredd. :P :D :P

I guess now all you need is Liz Hurley.
  • Awright........life skew averted.....congrats, n' happy fer ya ! Time to sum it up in verse...... Post us a short ballad :?:
  • Shredd, that is really good news! And there seems to be a shortage of good news, especially now that it is around election time.

Hey if things don't work, but they will, I was thinking about the unused attic space above my garage. I could run a drop light up there and nail a couple 4x8 sheets of plywood down for a floor. And I have an aluminum ladder to go up and down with.

If the car is ever in the garage all you would have to do is rap on the living room ceiling to let us know you need to get down and we can move the car so you can lower the ladder.

May get warm in the summer usually not much over 104, and I guess the attic may stay a little warmer, but I think you could adjust to it.

Just PM if you need to and I'll get things ready.
  • Great news. Glad to hear you are not out on the streets.

Which reminds me of an old joke I heard many years ago:

    Q) What do you call a musician who just broke up with his girlfriend????

    A) Homeless.
  • Maybe the Wife is starting to get a crush on you!.....(corrupt wishes come true?...)

There's probably about as much chance of that as Elizabeth Hurley beating down my door in a sheer nightgown, holding a bottle of '62 Lafite...

Thnx hodge...if things come out in the wash, I'm gonna haveta try to put all this turmoil into song, so you guys can live my pain. Although I haven't come up with anything that will convey my anguish at Liz H ignoring me, combined with the releif that I'm not married to a wench that denies me both sex and new strings!!!
  • By the way, thanks one n all for your support and good wishes. Especially Mike B, who's offering to help me CMA!!!
  • That's cool shredd man, glad to hear that things are stabilizing for ya. 8) I still wanna hear ya write \"The Bosses Bi*ch Blue's\" Just DON'T let her hear it  ... Just kidding, don't skate on thin ice, and let sleeping dogs lie. Wow, 8) just call me \"Metaphor-man\"

Hehee...yah, once I have SOME sense of security here (when they get back from travelling, who knows WHAT will shake out!) I'd really like to apply some of the turmoil that the last few months have involved into some songs. Stand by. In the meantime, I'm \"mangling another classic\" for your listening pleasure
  • Even though you position is safe for now, I would use the time looking for options if this situation happens again. It's better to plan for the worst. that way, you're as prepared as you can be for the next time.

    Hey, 1 out of 2 ain't bad.....

That's good advice, and I've been told that before, and most career columns and articles agree. And I intend to do so, in order to have any future episodes like this be less traumatic, or perhpas just move along on my own accord. (although I'd LOVE it if they paid me the severance I'm due, which is a bundle to me, but ashtray change to them!).
I do have some transitional situations lined up, as far as housing goes; I don't think I'd actually be living under a bridge. And I could generate some kind of work. I guess I'm just at an age when I'd like things to be going better; aren't these supposed to be the big earning years of life??
My problem is this: I live in a VERY small western mountain town. Housing here is a major life problem for anyone who's not a millionaire. So if I left this job, I'm immediately behind the 8ball. It's very possible I could find a new job worth taking, but housing is another story, and a real issue. If I were to lose/leave this job, it's likely I'd have to relocate and sort of \"start all over\".
Now that could be good or bad, or both. BUT...at my \"advanced\" age, it's not something I look forward to; I'm not a \"nomad\" type and I don't have the adventurous personality to take those kinds of risks with my life. A transition like that - new job, home, location, etc - is a pretty big deal to me and I find it a little/lot intimidating.
I know it's something I will eventually do, and have to face up to; but neither am I eager to. So I guess the advice is right...small steps, than take the leap.
Unless I get that job as Jennifer Aniston's personal lingere dresser...
  • Hey Shredd and everyone else,

Great to hear things aren't so bad now. Also, thanks for the kind thoughts. I have a few days off in a couple of weeks and I'm going to spend it in Zagreb, will meet my lady there and just book into a hotel for a few days. Great, it breaks up the tour a great deal. I have been speaking to her on MSN and trying to convince her to bring my guitar to me, though I am meeting with some resistance on that one! Doh!

You mentioned your \"advanced years\" what age are you if you don't mind me asking? I turned 36 on the 30th October. It was one of the lamest birthdays I've ever had as I've grown akin to having the following day off work and participating in a few beverages. Instead, I was working late, had to buy the cakes, but there were none so bought a selection of sweets to pass round, and couldn't enjoy a drink as we have a two can rule here. I could have broken it but what with working the next day and being far too honest I didn't.

That's the thing these days, I'm only 36 but just can't party the way I used too in my younger days. I used to enjoy all day sessions, now I only need a couple to feel bad the following day!!!

Anyway, I feel I must comment on the women in Bosnia. I done a half marathon last weekend (under duress, the boss made me do it, 13 miles of hell) and couldn't help but notice that in the local area there are a lot of fit looking ladies. It's amazing, you pass most houses in the rural places and there are big fat blokes all sitting about smoking and drinking whilst their really fit looking stunning women are digging trenches and pushing around wheel barrows!!!

Time to go now, all the best Shredd and happy that things aint so bad now. Bye for now and take care dude.

    TY

  • I have moved to pursue employment 5 different times during my working career. Every time, I've gotten a better job, more pay, and a better working enviornment. Small towns aint where it's at. Hit the big cities, make some bread, then RETIRE to a small town if you want..
  • yo Shando, it's good to hear from you and that all is well with you. Sorry to hear your lady won't be bringing you your git'r, but I suspect she doesn't want any competition for your attention!
Meanwhile, if you find any of those lovely Bosnian women that would like to live in the mountains with a tall guy, and who bear a stunning resemblance to Elizabeth Hurley, be sure to redeploy her to my location asap.
I WISH I was 36! But I'm a coupla-few years riper than that, and certainly past my partying years. But definitely not past my \"best by\" date...still rarin' for my E.H. impersonator to find me. Unless of course, someone knows how to get the real her to return my phone calls...
But at least I got to play my git'r on my last birthday...but you're doing a great thing being there n we're all proud of ya. Hang in there.

Thanks for the advice tal - but I find big cities a little hyperstimulating. I prefer the peaceful life...although, cities DO have their charms. And if I was makin' big bux in one...well...I'd do better finding my Liz Hurley clone in a big city than I'm doing here in the stix...sigh... :?
  • :D Right on Shredd :!: Food and housing are not overrated
but start looking for a new job now its way easier to get a job if you still have one for some reason  Dont let that Bee0ch set you up again

    peace out Jammon :!:
  • Hey shred

nice avatar glad someone has some good news good job shred

You said it. Where I live, housing is at QUITE a premium, and it's a place where you better dam well have a good job, or you're living in a tent. Besides, how would I support my G/A/S without a good job?
Meanwhile...I do think a new job is going to haveta come down the road...I'll be sniffing around here, but I suspect relocation will be involved, which complicates it and makes it harder to look. I may transition while unemployed  But I'm hoping for the best. Thanks again all...
