GNX3 Recordings

Hi everyone,

I've been a frequent visitor to this forum, but haven't really posted all that much. I'd like you all to take a listen to a few recordings I have uploaded @ this link (www.soundclick.com/thebrownman) and would appreciate some feedback.

The quality on most of these recordings are bad due to my horrible soundcard. Somehow I can never get rid of the static noise :S.

But yea \"Random\" is the most recent recording I've done. I'd really love it, if someone could do a layer over my \"Piano Riff\" track. You might notice that my timing is totally off on a few tracks(esp the Piano riff), and I apologize for that. I'm getting there :)

Anyhow I'd love to hear comments, suggestions...anything. Apologize for not using the Digitech site to upload this music, since i already had it up on Soundclick.

Thanks
Kevin

  • kevin002,
I went and listened to all your posts.
I must say you have great chops on the guitar as well as the piano.
As far as your noise problem, tell us on the forum how you are recording and into what. If you are coming straight out of the GNX into a sound card you may want to keep the output on the gnx down to a minimum. I find the unit very noizy at high output except when using headphones. Hope this helps.
  • Yeah, nice chops. Give us alittle more info on how you get your signal into the computer? I have a really cheap sound card, and my recordings come out pretty good,(my chops are weak  , but at least it's clear  )

I have my GnX3,L/R out(90% vol up) > mackie 1202vlz-pro > Line level input on the sound card. Not the mic input.

What is your vol set at on your PC mixer?
  • Hey,

You got some cool stuff on there
  • thanks for the feedback guys!
Currently I just do a Left Out straight to the soundcard, and record it on Cool Edit Pro.
And as thatsastrat pointed out, I tend to keep the GNXs' output level at a minimum. I've tried using noise/hiss reduction features built into Cool Edit, but that seems to be of little use.

I'm pretty sure that it definitely has something to do with my outdated PCI sound card.
  • I think having your Gnx output vol low is part of your problem. One of the first rules of recording,IMHO is to get the strongest signal in, before clipping occurs.
  • Kevin,
Some very cool stuff there 8) I heard what your saying about the static. It was a little anoying in some of those outakes on your site. Hey as far as your playing seemed pretty rounded & wide there Jazz Metal Acoustic cool 8) I especially liked your Piano pieces!! There were awsome!! How are you pulling those of? Keyboard set up to sound like piano? Are you doing it not for note type thing in Piano Role in software? Just wondering? I think they sound fantastic regardless how your doing them!! So would you say your more Piano man Guitar man or realy dosn't matter? Anyhow cool to see some new stuff posted!! Thanks for posting!! Keep up the good work Kevin 8)

    God Bless You!!

  • Hi partch,

Thanks a lot for your positive feedback. Really appreciate it. I might be getting a new soundcard soon, so hopefully I can get rid of the static noise.
As for the piano tracks, I did a line out from my Yamaha Clavinova (electric piano), into the GNX 3. The A minor JAM was pretty much the same setup as well, except I used the keyboard. I've always wanted to learn how to do the note-per-note composition using software, but havent got around to doing it as yet.

I'd definitely consider myself more of a Piano guy, considering that I've only being playing guitar for about 3.5 yrs now. But in terms of preference, I feel as though I'm drawn more to the guitar and it allows me to discover new techniques every time I play.

But anyhow...thanks a lot once again for the encouragement and positive comments.

    God bless :)

  • Hey Kevin,
That's cool man 8) We've actually been playing guitar then about the same amount of time. I've been playing 4 years. I play on a Worship Team at my Church. I absolutely love it, and have found my calling I'm so blessed when leading in Worship I feel like I'm finaly doing what God made me to do 8) You said about someone laying some guitar down on that one awsome piano track? I would love to try something to it!! Just don't know personally when I would get to it, as most of my time playing goes towards Sundays worship Orders.

    God Bless Kevin!!

  • I enjoyed listening to your tunes on your site…Your talent on Guitar and Piano are impressive…I really liked the Yanni tune you did…I think his melodies lines are the most beautiful ones I have ever heard…cool stuff. :):):)
  • Thanks Kirk for your feedback. I really enjoy Yanni's melody lines too. Straight from the heart.

Partch, I guess we have more in common than we thought. I've been playing in my church worship team for about 6 years. Started off as a keyboardist, and then switched to guitar just recently. It's an awesome feeling to just let go, and give Him all you've got. As you said, its a blessing; a privilege.

But yea, it'll be awesome if you could add something to that piano track when time permits. I'd love to hear something different. I know my timing on that particular recording is horrible, since it was recorded in a rush with no metronome. Anyhow, have fun with it....

and keep up what you're doing in the ministry!!!

    God bless
