I'm pretty new to the recording game (and this review) but this is something I threw together the other day. I was mainly experimenting with drum loops, not groundbreaking I know but its all new for me! I used my ESP Horizon - seems to be all I use these days and I was playing around with a couple of amp models and eq's to see how well they work.

I guess I've played some pretty random stuff here and I get a bit of a laugh each time I hear it.

Anyhow, here it is:

  • Oh heck yeah!!! Pretty kicking groove and some outstanding playing going on there! Great stuff all around. 8) More please.
  • 8) sweet groove, and tasty runs. Can't wait to hear more. Sounds like you have the drum loops under control. Nice job.
  • Very cool Betty 8) I liked it!! Sounded great!! What did you use for creating the Drum Loop? It's always nice to see someone new posting!! I enjoyed this post, hope to see you post some more.

    God Bless Betty!!

  • Very Cool Pickn'...
Good souning mix as well. 8)
  • :) Thanks to everyone for your positive response - I appreciate it.

In reference to Partch's question, I got the drum loops from Smart Loops.com and they were just free downloads. Now that I've sorted out how to insert them on PTP, I might buy a full drum library disc though I'm not sure who puts out the best drum collections. I've also learnt that PTP is a bit temperamental and won't accept some drum loops which gets me swearing and cussing because I'm obviously wanting to use that specific beat! Is anyone aware of drum libraries that DON'T work with PTP so I can keep clear of them??

I'll post another track some time soon, once again thanks for listening.

  • OH YEA Thats the stuff :!: You are definatley rawkin on that one Boo. nice to hear from you. write, post, colaborate with others etc... more more more.   :P
  • Nice! I really liked the wah wah rythm you had gong on. Also like your use of the whammy effect. Great tones as well.
  • ODB and thatsastrat, thanks for the compliments, glad you enjoyed it.

In regards to the tones I used for the track, I didn't think much of them on they're own but I was surprised how well they blended into the mix. I don't mind the lead tone but I haven't as yet been able to duplicate it live thru my quad..which sh*ts me no end I can tell ya. I've been stuffing around with eq frequencies for months trying to get it right but its amazing how much speakers colour your sound.
:!: :!: PLUS considering the fact that speakers work differently at various volumes - the colouring changes also with the volume, a bit frustrating sometimes. :?

The wah was an experiment and I've learnt you really have to ride the beat to get it spot on in time - after listening to the track I realise I'm not quite on it ! I wish I could blame it on latency but alas its just me!!:lol: I reckon wahs are easier to use with a live drummer...

Anyhow, thanks for listening and I'll post something new soon.

  • Wow! Great playing…tasty runs…tone for the lead sounds excellent…would love to hear an entire song…looking forward for more. :) :P
  • Sorry it took a while to listen to your post. Sounds like you need about thirty more seconds to get it all figured out.

    Keep it coming. :!:

    +1000!

Loved it. Which unit do you use and would you care to share the patches?

I am hoping you use the GNX3000!
  • Hey there bverdon, thanks for the great feedback.
Yeah I am using the GNX3000 and I've posted some patches for you to play around with.

5150BABY is what I used for the lead parts (different eq per track though) and it is trying to model the real amp. I usually have a splash of chorus like EVH and run a stomp box to get that 5150 endless sustain. I was surprised how it sounded recorded as its a bit buzzy through headphones, don't worry about using this patch live - it doesn't get anywhere near my 5150 head.

Just a funky rhythm wah used on the recording. I use this live through a quad and it works a treat. Go to the patch for the reason why its called this

This is a patch modelling a mates Roadking he bought recently. You'll notice the cab is direct - we had the GNX and Crate PB going striaght to the Roadking cab and this is as close as we got to what he had the head set.

Anyhow, have a play with them and tweak em etc. Let me know how they work out for ya. :D 8)
