Far Away Again (Dedicated to MikeC)

Here's a song that I've had on the shelf. It's supposed to have vocals, but since that may be a while, I redid the song as an instrumental and wanted to get it out to dedicate it to MikeC, who passed away last week. He's generously taught many of us to mix and master (along with what he's passed on to Mark007, thanks bud), and he also was always pushing us folks to put out music.
I mixed this through headphones, monitors, and my computer speakers. They all sounded drastically different and the instrument levels were all over the place. I ended up using the headphones as the tie-breaker, but my computer speakers don't seem to agree.

  • Nice work there AC!! Sounded fine here. I like this song pretty cool how it came back to the acoustic again towards the end and the ending solo was great!! Good job I enjoy your tunes!! You are a very talented player & composer of songs!! They always seem to be so well structured.
Hey keep up the good work man!! And very nice gesture to dedicate one to Mike!! I'm sorry I never got to know Mike at all.

    God Bless You!!

  • Thanks buddy! :D It's funny, but a lot of people slammed my songwriting at Broadjam saying that it doesn't follow \"the formula.\" I still don't believe in following formulas, but it did make me much more aware of the arrangements. Thanks for the comments. 8)
As far as dedicating it to Mike, it was the least that I could do for someone who generously gave his time for the improvement of others. You may not have got to know him, but if your recordings are being influenced by what Mark007 and I comment about on, then you're getting to know him indirectly. 8)
  • Very true AC!! I'm glad then I'm getting to know Mike Indirectly!! The Lord Knows My Recording Mixing needs it!! Thanks Ac!!

    God Bless You!!

  • Ha ha, thanks Partch! I've still got a lot to learn, but I'm having lots of fun doing so. You've got a lot of talent, so I can't wait to hear more of your tunes. 8)
  • This is a sad song, I liked it....I thought it was sad because it's for a friend who is gone now - maybe that's what affected my mood....

I believe music is not about formulas, it is the emotions and you have that factor in your songs.
  • Thanks for the listen and the comments. 8)
  • Hey AC,

Very cool tune, I especially liked the middle eastern type melody.

    Very nice 8)
  • Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for listening Slash! Hey, I'm heading down to Costa Rica this weekend. Which island are you on? 8)
  • I enjoyed the vibe in that track, it was really interesting to listen to.
    Thank you for sharing. :)
  • Thanks for checking it out John! :D Great to have another member contributing music. I'm looking forward to hear more of your GNX experiments.
  • This is a cool tune…Nice chord changes and melody line…I hear something like a Hungarian type scale in there and some diminished chords, very cool…good job on the tone of all the instruments…you kept it really interesting with some nice changes…acoustic sounds great…the only thing I thought that might add to the tune would be some big lush pad sounds in the background in certain spots...great tune. :):)

Thanks for the comments. :D I originally was going to put a choral pad and synth in the background, but the ones that I picked didn't sound right, then I forgot.
This song wasn't intended to be an instrumental, so the original arrangement leaves room for more playing around. As soon as the vocals get recorded, it'll be layered a little deeper.
I appreciate the comments Kirk! 8) Some day I'll get more depth in my tunes like yours. I love your creations.
  • :D Great tune I love the arabic style you have in there. nice arrangement too. Very dramatic drumz. Itz all good 8)

Thanks for checking it out and the kind words ODB! :D
I tried to make the ambient lead sound like it's circling around your head, kind of ghostly, but I guess I didn't turn on the surround bus and it only moves left and right in regular stereo.
  • AC....
I've commented on this tune on the other board, but let me say once again, what a cool tune this is... 8)
  • Really good job AC! This one's on my Juke Box. I too like the Eastern melody.
    Keep Rock'in P.G. :)
  • Thanks Tal and P.G.! I have no idea how this song came together, but I'm sure glad that you guys enjoyed it.
