Late Night Groove - new drums/remix

Hey guys,
I re-did this tune using EZDrummer and Sonar vs. gnx3k drums and PTP. I'll put the original and the new version on here. I think it sounds better, but then again, it's late, and I'm cross eyed from staring at this monitor for hours. Let me know what you think. Thanks!!!!
Rob

  • DUUUuude!.....I gotta say THAT was \"rippin\"!!!....but I liked the \"old\" versions tone better (more \"in your face \" mix)
  • Kick ass tune with lots of energy! It was fun listening to both versions.

The new version really comes to life with the new drums. I hear what the bluesman is saying. You had the drums up a bit in the original mix and they had more punch, but I like the new drums much better. Since it's there's no vocals on this, your leads should be panned dead center. Then adjust the volume up a bit. This way you can bring the drums up for that punch again.

How do you like EZdrummer? I like if for making quick basic tracks, but without the expansion, it doesn't offer enough percussion for me.
  • Rob,
I gotta say. Both Versions Kick!! Man thats some fine playing there!! Maybee someday I'll be there?? I agree with Cobalt it's almost like even the tone on guitars changed some?? Drums yeah I'll buy that. They are better in this second version. But tone and levels & such are better in the first. Thats my opinion. Now I wanted to ask the guitar in both tracks are Identical take right?? You did not fully record guitars on both versions Right?? just wondering?? They sound absolutely Identical other than tone & level?? That would be pretty darn awsome to replicate that perfect in multiple takes. At least for me!! There is always little nuauncies that change each time for me. Maybee not for you?? Anyhow just awsome Rob!!

    God Bless you!!!

  • I have to go with the original tracks as well. You had this awsome EVH brown like tone on the rythm trck that was killer.
  • Yeah cool stuff, I liked the original better but the drums sounded better on the 2nd version. 8)
  • let's see which one to save: first one, no the second... wait no, the first one... no no the second one... but but but the first one is ... OMG someone please tell me which version to keep :? I'm stuck in a loop and can't reboot. Pleeeaase Daaave, daaaaissy daaaaisssy, I'm melting, melting, look what you have done to me. Oh why did he post two killer versions? My wife is letting in the people with those white coats in now. They say I just need a little rest in the country, a quiet place in the country. I wonder will I be able to take my Crayolas?
  • Thanks Guys!

Ok, first things first. Mike B, it's sounding like a little \"time in the country\" could be a good thing  8)

Very interesting comments. The first time I posted the song, I got comments that the drums had too much reverb, and the rest was too dry. So on this one, I obviously added the new drums, and I cut the reverb on them, and added a very small amount to the guitars to even things out. That's all I changed. It must be a track level thing, because the only tracks I eq'd were a few specific drum tracks (kick, overhead mic). I listened to it today in my car and the bass was way high. I need to keep tweakin!

I really appreciate all the comments! Thanks guys! 8) 8) 8)
  • If you don't mind listening again, let me know if this mix is better.

    Thanks!!!

  • Oh man! That sounded great! It's a pleasure listening to this tune again. The drums really bring this song to life, (Not that it needed it, of course). I've always had the attitude that the drummer better do some work if he's gonna get the band chicks.
Great job! I love this tune!
  • THATS the version I will burn on my GNX-ER'z CD for the car!
  • Thanks guys!! This is a great sounding- board with excellent positive feedback! I appreciate the help in honing in on a better mix!!

    Thanks again!!
