The 1st Thing I Recorded...

The very first thing I recorded as soon as I plugged in to my GNX4 in January....I just found this going thru some folders and thought I would post it,- mistakes & all....it really amuses me now in retrospect (I had to hatchet job/ insert the drum fill at the end of the break- but it's actually pretty neat) and ofcourse I had no idea how to end it so I just went \"VOOOM\"...LOL

  • Oh yeah, this one rocks, classic style! I hear a ZZ Top feel to this one. Cobalt, you must walk around with shades on all the time. 8) I don't know what mistakes you're talking about. I just heard some tasty playing.
  • Very cool Cobalt!! Sounded fine to me as well!! Great playing there!!
    Thanks for sharing that!!

    God Bless you!!
    Partch
  • It seems we musicians hear every missed nuance like it was a giant puss boil on a centerfolds face :x ....to someone else its like a freckle....

I don't wear shades after dark, but I'm prone to \"Skull Bowling Shirts\" and pointy shoes.....

 I hear you on that! It probably drives you nuts knowing that there are mistakes, but believe me, this sounds like a final cut to me. And you should wear shades after dark. 8)
  • I'm just as bad - I hear every mistake and wonder why I can't record stellar music even without a $400,000 studio. or at least as good as ODB and his boyz...
Anyway, sounded pretty kewl to me...

ODB and his boyz can make a song sound great coming out of a paper bag. You should keep doing what you do, making fun sounding songs. 8)
  • I can dig this one. I do hear the mistakes but to hell with that.
    Nice job dude. very nice.
  • Thatsounded cool man. brought a smile to my face. It's funny how inspired we get when we first get our gnx. I mean I was recording stuff every night for a while but have fizzled out.

I hear you about the mistakes they do stick to us but this tune sounded great to me and i hardly heard any mistakes.
Sometimes if you try to go back and correct /rerecord you can't recreate
the cool things that were happening in the original

    OK I'll shut it :)

I agree. That's why I tend to keep a lot of first takes as they seem to capture the best vibe, mistakes and all. Once I rehearse too much, it sometimes sterilizes the track. :?
  • Yeah, I leave the first takes in as much as possible...at some point I figure I'll re-record every song again from scratch with a little hind sight knowledge, especially mixing wise. I have literally ruined recordings messing with them trying to get the sound I hear in my head (my versions of \"Lil Wing\" and \"All Your Lovin Was Lovin.... :x )
  • What mistakes CB???
    Dig the lead... 8)

and i thought i was the only one that felt this way.
  • and i thought i was the only one that felt this way

And there is the \"alienation\" we seem to collectively feel as creative people.
Recording music is almost like painting in a way....you have a blank canvas, then you \"layer\" parts over it (paint/colors)....if you've ever tried to paint or draw something, you know how hard it is to \"un-do\" your mistakes without completely ruining the base, or losing its initial spark.......man I have had too much Nyquil tonight (I have a bad cold)
  • :D that was Great! The tone reminded me of Dier Straights \"Money for Nothin\". Great tune as for the comments earleir in the thred...man I listen to my tunes for like a thousand times before I release them...and I hear all kinds of mistakes magnified too. Im think these are magnified a thousand times by my/our own insecurity  ...I thought this song was very polished and could'nt find the \"mistakes\" you were mentioning anywhwere. Keepem comin great stuff.
