\"Desperate Ascension\"

This was supposed to be a vocal song, but my singer says it's too guitar dominant. It may end up being an instrumental unless she can figure out how to attack it. There's still some cleaning up that can be done, but I figured that I'll do it when she does her part. There's no real solo in it either as I wanted to wait to hear what she sings.
Mark007 helped me put this into my website as is and I thought it may work as a theme song.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it. :D

  • YOU sir are mighty prolific!.....and you really have a way with a mix as well.....(and tell Andrea that \"I\" said there's no such thing as too Guitar dominant! )
  • Thanks for listening again, buddy. And I agree with you, there is no such thing as too guitar dominant.
I can hear some things that can be touched up mix-wise, but I'm going to wait for her to record her part. You know what it's like when you work on a song so much that you've got to take a break from it...
  • Great job AC.. 8)
Composition, Mix, and guitar work is awesome. 8) ..
Tell Andrea to quit worrying about singing and pick up the guitar..
I want to hear you two jam... 8)

    Great stuff AC as usual...

    See Ya,
    Tal.. 8)
  • Thanks buddy! Andrea is such a good vocalist that I don't want to distract her in that area. I don't think she's interested anyway. You said that this should be an instrumental. It certainly looks like it's headed in that direction. I appreciate the listen. When's your next tune coming? :D
  • Still in the honeymoon phase with the L5..
Working out some solo guitar stuff..
    Great tune AC..
    Dig it... 8)
  • Thanks for taking the time to listen.
I hear you on the honeymoon phase. My first dream guitar was custom made for me. It took several months for them to make it. Finally getting it was a surreal experience. Then I would wake up every day and check if it was still hidden under my bed. I kept hoping that it wasn't a dream. :D One of the happiest times of my life!
Then gas struck later in my life and I swapped it.
  • man that is a cool tune w/ a little santana lick or two toward the end . Lots of room for vocal

nice mix I can hear everything CLEARLY. I want my songs to come out sounding this good

nice blend of acoustic and elec
  • Hey, thanks for listening WOG! Glad you like it. The solo is supposed to be an ambient solo. I wanted to wait to hear what my singer lays down before adding a real solo, but the more I listen to this, I think it's probably best if I just let the song breathe. The bridge has a slight volume boost because I planned the mix for vocals and a lead, so without them, it sounds like an isolated boost. :?
I like the contrast of acoustics and electrics, so now that I sort of learned how to record acoustics, I'm going to start incorporating the two sounds into my songs. I can't thank Mark007 enough for his patience in teaching me how to eq. Although there's still work to be done, it's improved my mixes a noticeable amount. I used to only use panning.
Tell Andrea that there's lots of vocal room. Please.
  • Hey man,

Thats a great tune, I don't see what your vocalist is making a fuss about, plenty of room for vocals 8)

Thanks for taking the time to listen Slash! :D I hear ya, but she's the singer, not me.

Ha ha, she's my step-daughter. We just do this for fun.
  • My Bad :)

Nah, I think it's funny. I'm just not brave enough to say what I wanted to.
  • AC,
WOW here it is. Good to hear this post from you!! I was looking forward to that!! I definetly agree this could be sung to!! It deffinetly has alot of guitar to it. BUT: No way to much and just awsome catchey stuff going all the way thru this tune. You deffinetly understand the gammitt of playing composing, recording mixing!! Just sounded awsome!! My favorite parts of this song are the transitions it's just always going somewere!! And that little clean solo!! Very nice!! You say there is another solo to this piece?? Anyhow great job!! A pleasure to listen to!!

    God Bless AC!!

  • Partch, thanks for listening buddy. :D Glad you enjoyed it. I actually have light gain on the solo, like someone else mentioned, Santana-like.
I know Andrea can come up with vocals for this, but she says the guitar line is too dominant, so that usually means that she's tempted to sing the guitar line.
We have another song that's getting wrapped up now. It's different from what I usually play, so I hope it comes across well.
As for the other solo, I usually like to hear what they singer does before recording one. It has to make sense and add to the song, so I'm going to wait.
Anyway, thanks for the comments! :D
  • AC,
I forgot to ask. I realy like the original feel to the drums!! Needless to say it was not a canned GNX loop. I'm not a drummer and as of now my only way of getting drums in to stuff is the canned repetive loops. How do you do drums?? Do you have a drum machine?? Do you use a sequencer?? does someone actually play them and you record them?? Anyhow this is an area I need Major growth in!! Any feedback help tips etc.. you could give would be wonderfull!! Thanks AC!!

    God Bless You!!

  • Great tune... Just mix the guitars down in the mix when she sings it then addem back to the mix later  Great song and good to see you posting again.
  • Hi Ac,

Nice tune…Great mix…Accoustic sounds real nice…Are you using a mic?...Keyboards especially the B3 sounds awesome…Would love to hear more leads or vocals.

Actually, I'm a big fan of Neil Peart and John Bonham, so I'm starting to pay lots of attention to the drums. They were hand-written, note-for-note, including velocities. I'm using Storm Drums for the sounds and Sonar for the sequencing. PTP can do these sequences the same. Here's another really cool tip that Mark007 taught me... If you run CAL scripts, (they're in Sonar, but I'm not sure about PTP), it'll separate all of the drum tracks so that you can individually set each drums volume, eq, and panning. It really can help bring the canned GNX drums to life. 8)

    Another cool site to learn some drums is this;

That website has lots of useful information! :D

Thanks for listening ODB! Great to be back. I miss the original music a lot and it's been a blast going through all of these great tunes you guys have been posting. :D I hear you on the mix. In fact, the guitars were brought up due to her absence. I know you've got tunes in the works. When can we expect some more? :D
  • Hi Ac,

Nice tune…Great mix…Accoustic sounds real nice…Are you using a mic?...Keyboards especially the B3 sounds awesome…Would love to hear more leads or vocals.
    :)

Hi Kirk, thanks for checking out the tune! :D Man, you are the synth expert! How'd you know I used the B4? :D
The acoustic is plugged direct with amp modeling turned off, and I also have an omnidirectional condenser mic hooked up about two feet away. I'd like to hook up one more condenser, but I need to get another mic stand and cable first.
The leads and vocals will hopefully come some time in the future, but I uploaded this version in case anyone wanted to play around with it.
Thanks for the comments! I'd love to hear some more tunes by you. 8)
  • Ac that sounded really good man. I admire your work ethic writing that drum track note for note that can't be easy especially since you did it so well. My songs seem really sparse compared to the richness You, Kirkbauer and Dannyboy achieve with your tunes 8) The acoustic sounded great! You guys are so inspiring with your work. keep it up :) DGH
  • Thanks for the kind words dugraha! :D I appreciate your feedback. 8) Like I said, I really love the drums, so I don't look at it as work, but I have noticed that drums can really bring a song to life. Most of my compositions come from improvs with just drums in the background.

I really enjoyed your song a lot. It's not just a backing, but a song! :D Thanks for checking out the tune!
