a short sample: feedback wanted!
hey guys, finally got the gnx and ptp to respond the way i wanted. made a few tracks...my very first song ever...lol. please give me some feedback on the mix, etc. i have a drum track for this but i couldn't get ptp to play it. just the guitar for now. disclaimer some of the lead parts are off a bit...but...i'm not pro like some of you guys!

It just seemed to be clipping a little through my speakers though.
So just lower the levels a bit and you should be good.
Track sounds good though. I'd suggest toning them all down enough so that they're not all trying to overpower each other, which will be even more important when there's drums in it.
Another nickels' worth of free advice: dont' upload mp3's at 320K. Takes too long. Save it in 128, 160, or 192K.
yeah i think my cntr source on bass was set a bit high...lvl 17 i think...everything else was set at 10 or so....
Not bad!! I agree though with Slash, I think there is clipping?? Might want to look at the meters closely when your playing the individule tracks in PTP. Or it might be when you did the mixdown, Maybee the mixdown needs lowered before you export the MP3?? I just recently Recorded & Mixed My first all Original Tune as well. It's called Abide In Me Final. Check it out I would be interested to see what you think?? God Bless You!! Keep plugging away I can see this whole recording, mixing thing takes some time to get realy good at it. But it's worth it!!

As far as the mix goes, just some slight panning would help separate the instruments. EQ'ing goes a long way too. Filtering some bass out from the rhythm guitar will help the bass have it's own space. Adding a touch of treble to the leads will help them stay in the forefront and give them extra separation from the rhythm guitars (panning will just complete the package).
When you add drums, just make sure that the bass guitar and the kick drums don't occupy the same space, EQ-wise.
and keep an eye on the levels. major clips.

about the clipping, it seems like the only way to prevent clipping is to trim -6.0 on volume and db. is that normal? my source lvel when recording is at 10 right now and i'm still getting clipping, esp on the bass and (distortion) ryth guitars. :P
By the way, it's really cool that you're doing any recording at all. A lot of people seem reluctant to do so. 8) I look forward to hearing more of your tunes.
noob question of the day: How come i can't get any output when using tassiman(sp?) to mix? the entire song is 'muted' when i open the mix?
