A 57 re-issue Gibson Les Paul.. Just a beautiful axe..

Thought I'd try write a tune in the style of Les Paul to honor him with my new Les Paul guitar..Les Paul has been one of my favorite guitarists for years. A lot of people have played his guitar. You really ought to hear some of his recordings..Outstanding pickn'.. 8)

One of my favorite recordings of Les is the famous duet series he did with Chet Atkins.. The Chester and Lester albums.. Just great pickn'....
One day, when I grow up, I might be 1/100th as good as either of these gentlemen..

A lot of guitarists, when they think of the Les Paul guitar sound, think of Jimmy Page and the wonderful sound you get with one through an overdriven amp.. 8)

But when Les and the Gibson company invented the Les Paul guitar in the late 40's and finally releasing the first commercial version in 1952 there reasoning was that a solid body produced less feed back than a hollow body..(Which is true)..
Les Paul thought that feedback was God's way of telling you to turn it down.

Anyway that's what the Les Paul guitar was originally invented for..To supply LOUD, CLEAN, volume....Without the feedback hassles of the hollow bodies.. 8) .

And that clean tone is what I'm trying to capture on this piece.

Anyway this tune was done with the late nite pre-set on both the rhythm and lead guitar parts.

Bass part was done on the strat using the Roland GR20 synth..
(Just love my GR20, I think a pretty believable string bass on this tune..)

Drums are canned from the GNX4..

That Lester Paul sounds great.

I remeber hearing the Chester and Lester Album in 1994 in a USED Book store but they wouldnt sell me the album because I didnt have any money!! Whats up with that

Hey Tall that was cool!! Great playing & tone as always!! How do you think the Les Paul compares to your ES175?? I deffinetly think the the ES has more that mellow dreamy kind of tone?? this seamed more bright. I agree with you that strat with the synth put out a very nice stand up base sound!! Over all very cool!! Keep up the good work Tall!!

Tal man you kinda make me sick

cause you got all this talent and skill and you also have the MOST GAS OF ANYONE ON THE BOARD. I want a new les paul even if it causes a divorce. Seems like you just got a tele last week and I forgot what it was 2 weeks ago---man this would all be fine if we we're neighbors and you'd share

What can I say? Mr. Tal you are one special musical enity! How can you have that much music floating around in your head? You must dream staff lines, treble cleffs, key signatures and such.

i love how much melody and rhythm there is in the lead guitar. The chord work is also amazing. and your sense for arrangements is big. keep it up with your posts (and buy yourself a new guitar

Tal, as usual, excellent work, the Les sounds great, but I was honestly particularly impressed by the bass sounds generated through your Roland, very impressive. I've never even attempted to play bass, but you sound like a natural.....I am a little envious that you scored a '57 Les Paul......But, I take comfort in knowing that baby is in good hands......Take care Tal........keep pumping out the tunes.......

Thanks guys...I'm loving my Les Paul..I've got a 68 Paul as well. Bought it new in 1968. And yes... You can play a guitar out of a life cycle..

Headstock broken twice, 3 bad refinshes, frets and fingerboard just wore flat dab smooth out. Replaced the P/U's with D'Marzio's in the 70's. (Yeah I know...Kick me)...Recently put 57's back in it but the poor old thing is just about unplayable. Will cost too much to have it re-furbished for what it would be worth after all the mods and repairs done to it..

So after much thought I bought the 57 reissue Les Paul..From the moment I opened the box and started playing it I was floored..So many old memories came flooding back. The neck is just awesome. And that Les Paul Sustain is just incredible.. :shock: :shock:
WOW...What a guitar..

Since I aquired this axe, I have also aquired my dream guitar..
The Gibson L5CES. I will be posting some tunes with it in the near future. 8) .

As far as the ES175 VS the LP.. Just 2 different animals...

I'm running 12 guage Flat wounds on the ES175 and I love that dark jazz tone, you get with the flats.. 8)
The LP. is just the ULTIMATE blues and rock guitar.. That solid 10 lb. mahogony body with carved maple top just lets that thing sustain and sustain and sustain..WOW.. 8)
And the 11 guage round wounds give it a considerably different tone than the ES175

You know it sustains a tone when you can strike a string with the axe unplugged and feel that entire slab of mahogony just vibrating and vibrating.. 8) .

Yeah LP's are heavy and a lot of people complain about the fact..But there aint nothing out there with that kind of tone in my book from a solid body

Cheers to Mr. Lester Paulus and his wonderful invention..The Gibson Les Paul Model.. Introduced in 1952 and still going strong today.

Anyway, this tune is another demonstration of what can be done on guitar with lots of practice. I love your tunes and listen to them for inspiration and a break from the norm. Great composition as always. Forget Tal, Rolland rules!!!
