Advice on 64 bit recording programs
I have an AMD Athlon 64bit cpu ,but i am still using all 32 Bit programs with windows XP. What recording software is available for 64 bit and can I use another operating system besides microsoft-apple software, say Linux and still find programs that will work for my recording needs.
Anyone have knowledge in this area?

Xedit does not work either on x64
Then there is another problem - the problems mostly lie in the audio cards for 64bit... not your average run of the mill cards, just the higher end ones. most companies will not provide you with drivers for 64bit, they require that you buy a newer card.
I love x64 but have to dual boot because most of my audio things don't work in it yet.

DRIVERS For x64
please that is all we are asking!
I never considered the obvious problem of using my GNX4 for an interface :Ie,needing 64 bit drivers.
I will write some Emails to DT requesting 64 DRv.
It bugs me that I bought this PC 18 months ago with a64 bit cpu and little has changed in the software world as far as apps that support it.
I would think some smaller company would jump on this as the next big trend and beat out Micosofty. AMD should team up with some up and comming software co.
Many people predicted that untill standard windows went 64 little would be done
Is the advantage with 64 bit just speed and file size? Is there a big improvement in sound quality?
file size I have not see much difference if any at all.
I feel your frustration... What sucks even worse is the fact that Windows Vista is Already out in Beta3 stage and even less stuff works with it..
sorry by the way I am in the MSDN (microsoft developers network) and am testing things from them all the time.
AMD is buying ATI... ATI is known mostly for video cards... but the team
should produce interesting things.
both intel and amd are going the 64bit route so you would think ms would do a Vista 64bit version only...(which current has both 32bit and 64bit versions) nothing short of a newer computer will be able to effectively run Vista (it is a hog)

That is cool you are in MSDN....I have been wondering what was up with Vista since it was announced some time ago. I hope it is not such a hog that I once again have to get a new PC or suffer. I hoped the 64 bit cpu would keep me in the game for at least 5 yrs.
I wish Hardware and software were more easy to upgrade with each new development . I realize that it may not be realistic though from an engineering stand point.
Do you have any experience with any open source OS like Linux ?
Does it limit the apps one can use? No insult to your work with Microsoft but I would like to get away from being tied to there software. I guess it is my love of the underdog and independent spirit. Part of the reason I got and AMD cpu.
Thanks again, DAN
I personally only use AMD and I build probably anywhere from 75 to 100 custom computers a year.
As far as Different OS's - I have used Red Hat Linux at home and found that while I liked it I couldn't run everything (they way it is supposed to) I need to run.
