Abide In Me 2

All,
This is my second take on this Original. I figured out why I was not getting stereo MP3 file. Not sure how or why that thing changed?? But I'll know better what to look for now. Anyhow took everyones sugestions into acount on this take. Still not crazy about the vocals but they work. I think the cut thru the mix better. They maybe have just a tad to much effects on them now but that was what was working at getting there levels up in the mix. I just litterly started cranking things Reverb, Delay, Flanger. I was just getting frustrated with them always being so low. Anyhow Check it out Much better overall representation of what I had in mind for this song!!

God Bless All!!!
Thanks in advance for listening!!

  • Much better than the last one.I could hear your voice a bit better but IMO the vocals could be cranked up a bit more?

thats just my opinion and i dont have much recording/mixing experience compared to you guys.excellent original song, i bet it goes down well in church :D
  • Hey wickerman thanks!! Yeah part of the problem with the last mix was it being mono. I think now the biggest problem with the vocals are a tad to much FX. This was what worked for me to get the Vocals to cut thru the mix. This is not realy a praise & Worship song. It's basically just an attempt at writting and recording an original song, per Shredds thread a while back about writting lyrics. The song just deals with the reality that without Christ we can do nothing. We truly must abide in him!! Check out John Chapter 15 of your Bible, thats were the Inspiration came.

    God Bless wickerman!!

  • Where can i find Revelations?

Its a song by maiden and the words are from the bible. Also when can we expect some metal tunes, i know your capable of making very good clean songs(abide in me) so i can't wait to hear you Hot rockin'
  • Hey partch - the tune keeps getting better. Very pretty song. Now here's the thing with the vocals (I started figuring this out since I got my great condenser mic to do vocals with): vocals really take some guts. You have to go all out, and that means being familiar and comfy with the melody you're singing. But I still had a little trouble making out your lyrics.
This is what I'd suggest: now that you've got your stereo/signal mix thing straightened out, record your vocals either dry, with effects added later; or else just record them a lot hotter, so you won't need so much effecting to be noticable. They shouldn't dominate in the mix, but they should be out front enough that they're 'showcased', instead of fading into the background. Give it a try, this tune is great!
  • Much better mix...
    Vocals sound much more understandable...

    See ya,

  • Partch,

Great job man! Sounds better than the first mix!!

    Hey wickerman,

congrats on the gig! you guys are going to do great.

The book of Revelation is the last book in the bible...

I did the same research a long time ago (I was a huge fan of Maiden before I gave my life to Christ and I was confused most of their stuff has satanic overtones so I wanted to find out more)

The song Revelation has this line \"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more Death. Neither sorrow, nor crying. Neither shall there be any more Brain; for the former things are passed away.\"

The scripture in Revelations Chapter 21, Verse 4 actually states \"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Not sure why they changed the one word... some say to correspond with the name of the album Piece of Mind or to introduce the new drummer Nicko McBrain

Aleister Crowley the founder of the satanic church influenced alot of the lyrics of Revelations

Bruce's infulences never cease to astound..
  • very good partch

man you gotta be happy with how this song is comin out :)

Didn't know that.BUt did you know that Nicko is a christian?

Im not a chrisitan, but im not against people who belive in god, if thats what they belive then i am not going to challenge them about it.
  • Hey thanks all!! I realy do value all of your comments!! Lets face it most if not all who posted here to this thread has a pile more experience than me. But my God is so faithfull to provide all I need!! I'm amazed at how well this all came together!! I must say I totally agree with you all about the vocals. There are severall rough spots at the ending of bridge. There are to much effects on the vocals now to get them hot enough to pop out of the mix. They still are to low. I have some Ideas as how to deal with these vocal issues. I probably start with the easiest, and go from there.

    God Bless you All!!
    again thanks for listening!!

  • :D Much cooler! I like your vocal tone you are staying \"IN KEY\" Thats the thing sing in tune after that the rest is a matter of tweeking and vocal confedance when you sing.
:!: If you want to make your vocals stand out with more confedance...i know I spelled that wrong  Just double the track. highlight the track in the software then copy and paste a double. your volumes may actually need to come down after you double the track remeber to pan everybody apart. Alot of people pan one voc track right up the middle . this trick also works well for me with Leads too. It makes the selected tracks have more \"presence\" Dont overdo the doubling like on every track that will muddy up the mix but for vocals and leads that I think might could use a little something thats my favorite trick. As far as effects go its up to you. Most people say less is more THE SONG IS SOUNDING MUCH SWEEETER :!:
  • Thanks ODannyboy!! I appreciate your comments!! & Respect your obvious Talent, and experience. I tried doubling the vocals in this song panning the one hard right the other hard left. I gues both of those could be doubled to help with levels in the mix?? I'm thinking I might go back to dry vocals & learn how to verb & Delay my voice after recording?? The only problem I have with this is every effect I tried, even Lexacon seemed to be way to much!! I have no Idea how to back that kind of stuff off like what each parrameter does and what there levels and values should be. this would be a huge learning curve. Does anybody know of any decent already created presets in Protracks/Pantheon?? Everyone I ever tried just made everything worse did not help at all?? Any comments on this would be appreciated!! Thanks guys!!

    God Bless!!

    P.S.
I wrote Lyrics today for my first Praise & Worship Song. Which when Music stuff Key, Melody, Rythem etc.. are figuered out I hope our Worship team will use this song. i feel thats why I was given the song in the first place. All yeah keep your eyes peeled for a Heavy Metal Hyme. That's going to be for my mate Wickerman. I'm thinking \"Be Thou My Vision\" Anyone know this Hyme??

Hey partch...I LOVE that you've got all these great ideas for tunes, and are so inspired to do them. I can't wait to hear the wickerman head-bang hymn. I'm also looking forward to the next incarnation of A/I/M.
Lexican isn't that complicated...in your GNX s/ware install pcakage there's a little brochure explaining it. But don't overdo it; reverb should be subtle, not overwhelming, unless you're Elvis.
I fell your pain - I'm TERRible when it comes to recording dry and trying to re-amp or add effects afterward. I don't even record on my puter w/PTP, 'cuz it's too slow...that's why I always have lame drum trax, unles I get off my butt and put something together on my neat little ZOOM drum machine. I record on my GNX's onboard, or my little Fostex through my little Behringer board w/builtin effects. So much for studio sophistication...no wonder Jennifer Aniston won't return my phone calls. :(
  • Partch - I didn't listen to the first one. I am hearing bass, drums, a rhythm guitar and lead guitar and your vocal. I don't think you have too much effect on the vocal. what I can hear of the vocal is fine. Sometimes, the vocal isn't cutting through the mix. I agree with odannyboy, if you double the track, you will get a bit more volume and presence to the vocal. Just back the other tracks down and let your vocal come through. As you told me, the words are the thing in this song.

God Bless You Partch and keep it up.

    Phil
  • Hey thanks Phil!! Absolutely I want the Words to be heard!! I'm on that assignment right now. I have lots of Ideas to try!! I'll start with the easiest and move on from there. It's going to be a learning process, but well worth learning these important things!!

    God Bless Phil!!
