The Whistler

Here is my attempt at a Semi Blues thing. The chord progression is a little cheesy coming from Stairway to Heaven but I thought the Piano came out pretty good using the Piano roll. The whistle is actually from a synth.

GNX4: Guitar
Synth Sytrus (Fruity Loops): Whistle
SoundFontPlayer: (Fruity Loops): Piano
SoundFontPlayer: (Fruity Loops): Strings
Drums: Acid Wav file
Recorded in Sonar XL

  • Kirk,
Nice Song!! It started a tad slow for me. But as the song went on I was getting more & more into it. I especially like the heavy parts!! That rocked very cool!!! And like you said I think your Piano part is darn good!! You are doing that in piano roll huh?? Well maybee someday I'll pick up on that some?? Anyhow pretty cool tune!!

    God Bless Kirk!!!

  • Wow

    I Like that alot.

The intro reminded me of those Sergio Leone Westerns.

The heavier parts remind me of The Trans Siberian Orchestra.

Very nice playing and tone. 8)
  • Dood. That is EXcellent. My kinda jam. I totally loved that Ennio Morricone feel. If I could play like that hotties would be beating my door down...I think...
  • Wonderful arrangement....
    Great guitar playing as well....

  • Whew... what can I say?? Love the moody feel, love the shifts between contemplative and in-your-faceness, *all* instrumentation is top-notch (esp. the ax!!), mix is superb, not a bit of cheese in sight! I find myself always waiting eagerly for your next post. (I gotta get me a synth...)

  • Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the reviews!!! I only wish I can return the favor more often, but I’m still in the dark ages with a dial up modem at home…I don’t think my wife would go for the 50 bucks for cable…Maybe I could get some new equipment instead…Thanks again. :):):)

Common theme around here. You gotta OK it with her just to buy a ten-pack of strings. Maybe I shouldn't gripe so much about not havin' a woman???
  • I really loved it also kirk
    wonderful job
what patch did you use for that sweet bules sound?
  • Excellent tune Kirk! On my speakers, the mix was perfect - Bravo!! I agree with the above, the guitar tones were sweet. When the heavy part kicked in, did I hear some Trans Siberian Orchestra influence?? Very nice job!
  • Yeah, I'd like to know what patches you used for the intro part ('zep prog'), and especially for the mellow solo part in the first half of the tune. That was killer.
This tune is so tasty I put it in my MP3 folder, for more listening. Hope you aren't copyrighted, I'll have feds beating my door down...
  • Hi All,

Thanks for the kind words! I used one of the Jazz patches and tweaked it a bit. I don’t remember the exact patch but it was from the jazz folder on the patch site. I use a Strat and the second pickup setting from the neck. In sonar I used some more EQ, Compression and Reverb. The heavy stuff was done with the GaryMoore patch and tweaked out. I used the last pickup slot for this.
    :)
  • Dude, excellent work, incredible mix and awesome lead. Look forward to hearing your next submittal.
  • Very sweet dude, had my intrest from the first to the last note. It's like a cross between Mike Oldfeild meets Vinnie Moore, with a little Roger Whiticker thrown in.Very cool.

    Keep Rock'in P.G.
  • Just a great piece of work Kirk, All parts were well done, loooved the piano I definately agree with slashnburn Had a nice trans-siberian orch. feel to it. Good job and keep'em coming :D DGH
