She always runs away

Hey all here's a track I just wrote, it's a little heavier than usual for me so i'm out of my comfort zone  Anyways the vocals are laughable but hey it's rock n roll :D Let me know what you think! http://www.digitech.com/soundcomm/patches/GNX4/shealwaysrunsaway.mp3

  • excellent....I hear a vocal harmony running thru, just under the main vox

  • Very Cool

It has a nice groove to it 8)

I like the pick scrapes :D , I think it's a very underused and underated technique, as straightforward as they are. :)
  • Hey thanks for the nice comments guys. This is one of the first tunes I've done where I came up with the music first and the lyrics last so that was a departure for me. Yea slashnburn I really enjoy the pick scrapes as well they add such a cool dynamic , they can really set off a chorus,of course in my opinion nobody does scrapes better than Tom Scholz,I believe he's the first guitarist I heard use them 8) :D
  • dugraha,
ok I have to tell you- this song is very good-very interesting-engaging rythum--good harmonies
but here it is your vocal needs work but not your voice. Man I think you have a excellant voice--maybe better than you know but somehow you need to mix that thing so your cool vocal can be heard---I'm not blowing smoke I'm serious we need to hear your voice cause it's good and this song deserves the remix. bring the vocal up and out front more.
oh and the solo area with the diff guitars is cool and adds to the character...very cool :)
  • Yah, pretty kewl. I agree with those guys, the vocals are far from laffable, in fact show great ability and much promise. Borrow a good mic and get 'em out in the mix. Sounds great, good work! Got any lyrics I can use??
  • Dugraha strikes again..
    Excellent tune my man..
Almost a \"Nirvana\" feel to it.
    Loved the vocals..
  • Hey guys thanks for the replies, Yea the vocals definately need to be out in the mix more, the thing is with PTP after mixdown everything loses its prescence from the vocals right down to the instruments. I'm using a sm58 but i'm guessing that's probably not the right mic for my particular voice. Anyone have any suggestions for a good large diaphragm condenser mic that wont break the bank? Oh yeah and Shredd for some reason I kept thinking of you bro when I sang the chorus  dont worry that rush lovin hottie's out there somewhere.
  • Whew... this is heavy... and terrific! I love the middle break. RE: vocals. A couple things you might try. First, I think the overall level of the vocals is pretty good. But they sound a tad muddy. Might try backing off some of the delay / 'verb which will tend to move them forward in the mix. After backing off the vox FX a bit, you might try recording the vox line twice with the two channels panned hard left and right... gives a nice big, fat, reverb-y sound without being muddy. Beatles did this a lot.
    Great job! - gh
  • Right on liked it alot nice lead GTR melody you referance throughout kinda haunting overtone to it. and cool vocals too
  • Well I'm gonna try to remix the vocals maybe try graniteheads suggestion of a hard pan left and right . Hopefully this will clean up some of the mud, see what happens. Once again thanks for the helpful comments 8)
