Me & Deep Purple

My entry to a radio contest for a chance to play live with Ian Gillian of Deep Purple in NYC hosted by \"The Radio Chick\".
The rythm gtr. is Mike's \"Krankamp\" patch, the leads a Rectifier w/bigg muff and one w/IPS Dorian>4th.

  • Cool. Nice rhythm patch, the classic riff sounds awesome.Liked the ending too.I hope you win the comp. :D
  • There is nothing to not like about that entry. You nailed the drums. The vocal are super. The guitar tone is a great tone. Its easy to like Mike's Krank tones. The leads are spot on. Its always a challenge to play such an iconic cover song. You have done a great job with this.
  • Cobaltblooz,
Very nice!!! Did you have some kind of a backing track?? They were your Vocals right?? I think the guitars sounded awsome!! I think the IPS definetly added exactly what you needed to those certain parts!! Anyhow hope you win!! You certainly did a good enough job in my opinion to win!!

    God Bless!!!
    Partch
  • Its actualy Ian Gillian & his current touring band supplying the backing track!...the first Guitar figure is the BT, then I kick in and the BT Guitar fades out after the whole band kicks in...I can post the BT if anyone wants it...I was cracking up the whole time I recorded this, it was my favorite song in 73 (at 15) on my favorite album \"Made in Japan\"
  • Some Ian G/DP trivia:
My favorite on that album was Sweet Child In Time. Choice. Jon Lord rok'd on that tune also.

Who knew that Ian Gillian played Jesus in the original Broadway staging of Jesus Christ Superstar? I've seen it a number of times over the years...it's a decent production, but it has a better score than any show I've ever seen (that's why I keep going to it!) and Ian G just NAILED the part. Also choice.
  • cobalt--man I haven't heard that song in years---which is good cause the radio dam near wore it out but I gotta say that I love your take on it ---it sounded nice and fresh --good chops -nailed it --my speakers couldn't handle it -I had it so loud

good luck in the contest :)

Are you serious!!!?....I did NOT know that!....the man STILL has some pipes!

Good stuff. Get the original Broadway soundtrack (it has abrown cover with two angels on it), if for no other reason than to hear Ian G nail it. But it's a pretty dam good score on it's own. It's one of those Tim Rice/Andrew Lloyd Webber collaborations.
  • :D Very kool Cobaltblooz. Love DP I saw them with BOC what a great show. \"Straight between the eyes\" does it for me.
Great Job . Good luck with the contest.
  • I'm from NY and heard about this contest. My problem is that you multitracked the recording. They wanted one guitar track played over it. The reason is that the winner has to play it live.
  • Yeah, a man with 8 tracks is apt to \"take liberties\".....though I dropped the rythm guitar out during the solo, and I could sneak in some of the little fills live anyway...I never heard them say \"no overdubs\", I heard em say \"show us you can play\"...I'm sure Steve Morse can handle backing me up on stage  ....THATS actally my worst nightmare...to win!....then have to play next to someone like Morse or Satch! (shudders....)
  • Actually, it wouldn't be a nightmare at all. You can easily hit the volume know on your guitar, take a bunch of pictures, and create your own \"fish story\" that you can tell for many years to come.
  • Yep Cobalt..
    Another good one...
Commented on the GNX4.org board but I just got through heaing it again.
    Very good playing..
Hope you win the whole enchileda..
