September 12

Warning: If your politics are to the right of center, you might not enjoy this tune. But, hey, I respect your opinions anyway.

A friend of mine continually bemoans the fact that on September 12, 2001, the world was united with the US, and we have let that slip away. This songs talks about that. This is a metal tune I'll be presenting to my band later this week. We have a show on September 10, at which I'd like to play it. I did some goofy stuff with the vocals, but, hey, its metal. This is done on Sonar and the GNX4. I used the Thembonz preset from the web site and added some phase, for the McLaughlin inspired intro. I use the Dimebag tone of Guitar 3456 (Supermodels) and I add a bit of Whammy. The leads are done with Stevie tone also from the Supermodels. but with some additional distortion added at the processing phase.

Non-guitar parts are midi programmed on Sonar, and are played through the Roland TTS-1 SoftSynth.

Enjoy!

  • Here's my nickel's worth:
I'm not really a metalhead, so I tend to judge such music unfavorably. That said, I thought your tune was good. But...IMHO, being it's of a notably social/political topic, methinks it'd be a good idea for the lyrics to be more legible, since they're clearly the object of the song. It'll get the message across.
  • Phil,
Hey cool song!! Sounded like it had passion in it, and you feel strongely about the message. That's good!! Hence I would clean the vocals up, at least some, say like the chourus it still had effects but much less I could hear what was being said much easier. Like you said that fits in the style BUT: I just think the message your singing should be heard well!! The intro was real cool!! I think the song flowed well, and I like it, even if I may be right of center in polotics!! I think you did a good job on the whole of the song!!! Keep it up!!

    God Bless Phil!!!

  • Shredd and Partch -Thanks for the feedback. That's what I needed to hear. Its real troubling with the genre - so much of the Hardcore metal is that cookie monster barking where you can't hear anything. I tried to not do that. I'll see if I can come up with something that colors the voice without losing the lyrics, or I'll just do it with some kind of appropriate accent. A megaphone kind of effect might not be bad.
  • phil I know what you mean about the cookie monster barking.Like they said music was great---lyrics --all I heard was summer of 2001.
I'll be lookin for the remix---even though I'm right of center
    keep rockin :)
  • And of COURSE if you meet any heavy metal sl_ts at your show, be sure to hook me up!!!
  • We have a show Thursday night. I was hoping to get some pictures. This and the show we have on September 3 are really more of the true metal crowd. But while we're in a metal mood I thought I'd work up this new song. I gave it (I mean the song) to the keyboard player (my wife) tonight. Its way too metal for her taste, but she actually wants to sing the chorus. I hope to have the remix done by Thursday. Its kinda funny - my son (our drummer) is into a new band, DragonForce, that we saw at Ozzfest. One review we saw from a Brit site said \"Dragonforce are metal as F***. \" Actually they have more of a prog rock groove. So I asked the wife tonight if the song was metal as F***. And she said its more metal than F***. Yeah!!!
