Amplify the guitar signal before the GNX ?

Hi !

I'm wondering if it makes a difference.
Is it worth it to buy a cheap DI box,
or some kind of preamp to amplify the guitar signal ?
And maybe put something like a Behringer MIC200
to smooth the digital sound from the multifx ?
Thanks!

Daniel

  • I have a Radial Switchbone, which has a boost function... it can be handy to drive the amp model a bit louder, for solos and such. It's not really necessary, I'd say more of a hassle than an advantage. The reason I had an AB at all was to use two GNXs simultaneously (one for looping), which also didn't last very long.

As far as DI goes, you'll want to have one in case you need to plug in an instrument into the mic input. Example of another application would be plugging in a preamp into the mic input (in the past we've plugged my vocalist's wireless unit 1/4\" out -> DI -> mic in).
  • I use a Presonus Blue Tube Mic to warm up the signal out from the GNX4. It works very very well.
  • So talking about the guitar input, it doesn't really help
to get a better sound quality, to feed the GNX with a
stronger signal? Right? And about the tube mic/instrument
amps after the GNX, ne1roc you said you use one. What
do you think, would it enhance the sound, even if I use headphones?
    Thanks!
  • presonus BT, if on the input side of the GNX will warm it slightly, but it's going to get digitized at the input for processing. BT in the output will warm the processing up to external sources, ie amps, pc etc.
