solo

Hey

I started jamming over this rhythm track then re-arranged all my ideas to get this solo.

I used the Em pentatonic.Could anyone suggest some other good scales to use to solo?

Tell me what you think and how i could improve.

Thanks

  • Nice pickn' wicerman...
With the changes you got going (Without playing it I think it sounds like a bass line doing E, G, F#)...(May be a little off, Years since I took ear training and even more years since I used it.):lol::lol:
    Might try Emajor pentatonic...
Might try to change scales quickly with the bass line. (Run in E, Gminor, F# minor)..
Might try runs in G major for contrast (Relative major of E minor)...
Might try diminshied (Minor3rd runs) or agumented (major 3rd runs) to stress the dissonance...
To stress the dissonance even more try some flat 5 runs.(The dreaded tri-tone) that will wake up some people...

Might alsos be fun to play with eminor arpeggios, and chromatic runs..

    Sounds good dude..

thats what i played for the rhythm. You lost me in all that flat 5 runs, major 3rd runs tri tone, relative major or Em????
  • Wickerman,
Cool little Ryhtem going on there!!! I might even record it & mess around for fun!!! I would try as Tal Said some G Major. That might have some neet contrast. If you play Diatonic G Major pattern 3 not per string should get the speed up and alow you to shredd more to that killer Rythem!! Give it a try.

    God Bless Wickerman!!!

  • hey go ahead and record, it would be good to hear your ideas. We should have a jam each month, someone lays down a rhythm track and the others play lead over it and the other forumites vote for the best then the winner lays down the rhythm track for the next month......

could someone please tell me what this diatonic thing is?

I don't take lessons so i would be grateful for any info.
    thanks
  • Wickerman,
Just a wierd name for the 7 note Major Scale. Were as you have said you use Pentatonic for your solo 5 note scale generally 2 notes per string. The diatonic 7 note scale 3 notes per string can open up more speed. That's partly why I recommended it. hope that helps??

    God Bless!!!

    P.S.
I like the Idea of the whole soloing over others Rythem!!! I've already done this countless times to songs posted , or riffs etc.. that I realy liked.
  • Hey bro I would preface that I have never had a lesson either. I started playing at Church ground level, no experience. I did not wait to get good before I started. Thru Christ all things are possible!! I like it this way because God gets all the glory!! I don't have a degree, know alot about music etc.. But God is good and always gives me what I need when I look to him, and ask for help. Not to preach to you just to say I know were your comming from!!

    God Bless you Musically Wickerman!!!

  • Killer plyin, some cool patterns in their.

I thought you kept it interesting.

    Good Stuff 8)
  • Thats some great riffing !...how about using a C \"Lydian\" mode (scale)...start at the 8th fret C note w/ middle finger on the low E (6th) string>pinky a whole step to the 10th ---next string 1st finger 7th fret--whole step>half step---next string same pattern---G string 1st finger 7th fret>whole step--next string 1st on 7th, 2nd on 8th pinky on 10th---next string (E) same pattern...this scale works well over Em or Gmaj and you can get some cool hammer ons & pull offs of your own going.

One other thing, posting the songs in WAV format is not so good cuz of the file size, convert them to MP3's first
  • So should we do that Monthly Jam then?

Ill definately try the Diatonic, much easier to play fast with three notes per string.I know it can be done with the pentatonic so there are three notes per string but im not sure how to convert it.

Also ive updated the solo, 10 BPM Faster and much better ending.
  • Try:

E minor, combination of natural and harmonic
    E dorian (2nd mode of D major)
5th mode of A harmonic minor (E phrygian major or phrygian dominant, depending on whom you ask)
You can get some good ideas throwing in the 7th mode of F melodic minor (E altered I think it's called, Tal might know a more common name) every here and there
  • <div style="displaynone">fiogf49gjkf0d</div>Hey Wickerman.

You play great! Especially for such a young guitarist. I can't wait to hear you as you gain more and more experience.

You all make me realize how little I know about music theory.... oops

    I have alot to learn!
