I can't find my post(s)! ..or, My posts were edited - why?

Guys, let's clarify this since it's come several times recently.

The purpose of this forum is to share Digitech-related information, as well as music and related material created using Digitech products or similar other products. We want try to keep it organized and maintain information made available by others so that it's easy to find. To meet these goals, the forum is moderated in any of the following ways:
* Posts may be moved to other forums
* Topics may be renamed
* Certain posts may be locked
* Responses or entire topics may be removed altogether

For example, certain posts will contain subject heads such as \"NEED HELP NOW! help help hple......\" The body of the post will usually contain a legitimate question, so to make the topic more accessible to future users, the post may be renamed, usually quoting the body of the initial post.

Additionally, certain other guidelines apply that constitute forum rules. For instance, vulgar or obscene posts may be edited or removed; posts containing other manners of insults or excessive bashing of individuals may be removed; posts that can be construed as solicitations or advertisement will be removed; etc. A full list of these rules is available.

Once posts are edited or deleted, certain responses to those posts become irrelevant or non-pertinent to the topic. This creates confusion of other users reading posts. Therefore, succeeding posts may be edited, moved, or deleted for clarity and content.

I want everyone to know that I have a sincere desire to make this as open a forum as possible, and make it simple for users to share their views. Therefore, if in the future a post is edited and removed, the user making the post will be notified by PM in all circumstances, with reason for changes or deletions provided. This will remain the policy unless otherwise directed by admin or another Digitech representative, at which point users will be notified.

Many posts are made daily, and the forum does not always provide a straightforward way to moderate topics. Therefore, if your post was removed without warrant, it was probably my mistake and I apologize. If you believe that you are being unnecessarily or excessively censored, please feel free to voice your concern to the user \"admin\" on the forum.

As always, do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions or comments, or if you have any problems.

Thanks,
-Ilia

  • A) There is this well known effect of the \"last straw\"

Suppose five people feel strongly about a particular issue or person

They all make one post each

here comes the sixth guy and makes a post

Mod feel that this was just too much

all six get their posts deleted !!!

or worse still, neutered by editing.

Sounds funny if the forum has lost some valid inputs just because many people felt the same way !?!

    B) There is also the case of the \"runaway train\"

someone makes a strong valid post with no abuse, no sexual innuendo, no slander.

comes the team and they build up on the earlier post, get rowdy. Mod feels the whole thing stinks and out goes the whole thread, along with the original valid post.

The forum looses some valid inputs just because of other people later posts ?

Dear Mod, I commend you in trying to bring fairness to the forum. I request you to keep a special lookout for the above situations.

Please try and make a forum where a person can make some strong points in a civil way without the others feeling that is a whine or bashing.

You have to nurture those civil posters who have stong view points and inputs, or you will just get a bunch of weak willed \"yes men\" who follow the crowd !!!
  • Those situations are always a tough call. The question usually boils down to, do you want to edit the offender's post (in the last straw scenario)? Do you think they would rather you delete it so as not to have censorship imposed on them? If so, would it be fair to remove the entire post? Remove the offending post, and lock the thread?

I'm one of those people that have what you called \"strong views and opinions\", so I certainly understand the frustration of not being heard, and not being allowed to voice an opinion. Judgement calls have to be made when a situation gets out of hand, or is getting close to it. Part of the moderator's job is to make sure that the controversial topics do not overshadow the discussions for which this forum is designated.

On the users' end, it is helpful when folks are tolerant of other views, and restrain their frustrations and outbursts to the best of their ability. Sometimes it is best to wait an hour before making an opinionated post - the extra time will often give you the opportunity to present your idea more clearly and more professionally. It also helps to try to understand where the other guy/gal is coming from, and relate your response to their point of view. This also makes posts easier to review for future users, whether they're looking for useful information or just killing time browsing through old topics.
  • On another note, I have never removed entire posts with responses in my short time here as a moderator. I hope it doesn't ever come to that. Sometimes I remove duplicate posts if no responses have been made to them.
  • Addendum: spammers do not get any notifications. Nothing mentioned above entitles anyone to anything other than stipulated in the end-user agreement, including notifications of any sort.

I hate to have to verbalize issues like this, but it seemed appropriate.
  • Ilia knows what hes doing, plus I've NEVER seen any topics that got vulgar or any bashing at all. Which I really appriciate. Almost every user here is sincerly here to learn or educate and not here to ruin things for all.

If things*do* get taken out or edited, I'm positive it will be minimal and also the edited posts most likely will also be un-necessary or re-worded duplicates.

Maybe sometimes tho duplicate topics would be nice in terms of making it easier for a user to find the information he or she is looking for?

    Just an idea.

This forum is basically top notch full of very smart people who will stop at nothing to make sure you are taken care of! :P
  • And besides...if Iliace and the rest of the gang can put up with my incoherent ramblings that are mixed in with my opinions and advice, they are clearly displaying true \"moderation\". Godspeed, boys. 8) Just tryin' to have a little fun with y'all...at least until I can play as well as some of you...
