  • i did this to a FatStrat copy witha Floyd Rose copy and the results were FAB. If you PM me your email address I'll send you a pic of what I did. It's totally self explanatory and if you have guitar-smith abilities, you could do it. Do remember that it's a permanant, not a temporary, modification, even if you remove it and go full-float again.

All this, plus the Ginsu knives, in exchange for jennifer Aniston's phone #.

  • I've never done this, but I've read about others doing this. A small piece of wood under the tremolo just under the baseplate beneath the fine tuners and add a couple of extra springs. That basically turns your Floyd into a hardtail.
That would be the \"easiest\" as you inquired about.

Floyd has come out with a new bridge called the trem-setter which all the reviews are good. If you decide to upgrade, rather than make major changes, they have been answering a lot of the complaints with the newer bridges. Have you gone to the Floyd Rose web site and nosed around a little?

There is a cool add-on gadget...(I don't know off hand what it's called, but EVH uses it) that allows you to tune easily to drop-D and back using a Floyd.
  • I sniffed around a little, and found this site which offers a Trem Stop which locks up your bridge. I remember seeing this before, and I think there are other versions of locks available as well.

....also that gizmo of Eddie's...found out he invented it. It's called D Tuna.
  • i'VE DONE THIS--- CUT A COUPLE OF SMALL BLOCKS OF WOOD AND GLUE IN FRONT AND BACK OF THE TREM WHERE THE SPRINGS HOOK UP----ACTUALLY IF YOU MAKE THE PIECES NICE AND TIGHT --YOU WON'T NEED GLUE!!!
  • Hehe, I did that too, but took a route I'm not too proud of. I jammed a bunch of pennies in there as a \"temporary\" way of holding it, just to see how it played. Those pennies have been in there for about a year now, and it stays in tune unbelievably well. Using something metal might be better than wood to avoid compression.

  • Wow, that trem stop pic looks a great idea. I went down the jam-2-bits-of-wood-between-either-side-of-the-trem-body route and to be honest, I can't really complain, I have a fantastic action and it stays in tune for ever.
