Using bass guitar with Pro Tracks

Does anyone use a bass guitar with Pro Tracks? I play guitar through the GNX4 and bought a bass to add some realism to my backing tracks. I plugged in the bass through the GNX4 and it worked, but was kinda limited as far as the tones you can get. Maybe I haven't spent enough time with it. Are there other bass processors that are compatible with Pro Tracks? Any feedback to get me on the right track would be greatly appreciated.

  • Did you try one of the bass amp models?

GNX is perfectly capable of handling a bass signal as far as hardware goes. Not sure what accomodations are made within the firmware to adjust for the differences, though. I recently loaded BNX3 firmware on my GNX3, and now use that for bass. It's a great unit.

Bass into a good preamp works too. Or into a bass amp, running direct. Or bass amp into mic preamp (at instrument-level output). Many solutions are possible. Since you have a GNX4, you can get just about any bass processor or amp (e.g. bass version of V-Amp) and run directly into line-in on GNX4.
  • Thanks for the tip.....I'll give that a shot.
  • One other option: get a DI box and run the bass dry into the mic input.
