Rescue Me
Hey all.
I have not posted anything for a while.
Here is a song that I just finished. Used an Epiphone Les Paul for the guitars, an Ibanez for the bass, a VX400 for the vocals, and a Roland TD20/VPro for the drums.
Used Guitar Tracks (w/ Amplitube) for some of the 'filler' guitars. Me on the drums, guitars, and vocals. My brother on the bass guitar.
Interested to read what you think of the song and my mastering (honest feedback please). I used Sound Forge to master the song.

Thanks.

What did you think about the production/mastering? That is what I am really working on.
Anyway - for my $0.02:
That's an @$$kickin' toon, I wish my songwriting was getting anywhere like that.
For what it's worth-
As far as the mix/mastering: the vocals are excellent but are dominated by the rest of the instruments. Not that they should \"stand out\" from the mix, but they're being overpowered. I think just a hair less on the power-distorted guitar would do it. The vocals come out much better during the middle bridge-y part.
Beyond that, I think it's pretty masterful. You rock.
My wife always tells me that the vocals on my songs are never loud enough. I will tone down the guitar a bit. I think I like my vocals to 'hide' behind the music because I don't have a good 'gravelly voice'. I get so nervous in front of the mic.
I wrote the lyrics about two years ago when I was pondering my relationship w/ God. I have struggled w/ faith all of my life and still don't understand most of it. I think what I am trying to say in the song is that I believe in You, but I still feel so lost and in need of 'rescuing'. :?
Thanks again.
What are you using for drums?
Bring the Vox up in th emix and it will sound Pro.
Last night I brought the vox up a bit and brought the guitars down a bit. I might change a couple of parts on the vocals, I am a little flat @ times.
ne1roc...I use a Roland VPRO/TD20 drum set. It is an electric set w/ mesh heads. Weird looking, but the feel is very similar to an accoustic set. It even has a double bass and a real hi hat stand. It has SPDIF and Audio out. But I can't get the SPDIF to work w/o crackle and popping.
Thanks again.
I tried to understand as best as I could with my crappy speakers at work. I agree with the others that vocals need to come up and the guitar needs to come down a little, since you already did that I am looking forward to hearing the new tune.
I had a few ideas while listening:
If you use a clean chorus guitar starting at 37th second, and then switch to distorted guitar at 1:02 or 1:13 it would accentuate the feeling. I couldn't hear well but 37 -1:02 seemed like a perfect space for some bass where the clean chorus guitar accompanies the bass, until the bass is dominated by heavy guitar.
Goooooood work 8)
good song (honestly) I liked it but couln't understand the words much so I would think about kickin up the vocals also not much bass(that could be my speakers
